So I've been looking at the '16 Tacoma for a while. I've seen them in person but haven't had the chance to take any for a spin. Today I had a customer come in with a 2.7L SR access cab to install cruise control. I didn't really care much for how I felt in the truck, main reason I ended up not buying a 2nd gen. The 2.7 was a dog. Was hoping the customer had the V6. I didn't go on a long drive but I didn't really notice the tranny jumping around gears. But I also was under 55 mph as well. Are most of the transmission complaints with the gear hunting issues only with the V6 or are people having the issue with the 2.7 as well? One thing I did notice right away was a wind noise. The whistle. I can see how this drives so many people nuts. If the radio was on you wouldn't notice it. I had the windows up and the radio off, I'm sure it's even worse with a window cracked or down. Obviously I know a Sport or OR should feel a lot different, especially with the 3.5, but my excitement about these trucks definetly has diminished a little. I know I've been spoiled coming from a pretty loaded up F150 but I thought the Tacoma was going to have a lot different feel compared to the 2nd gen. I was in love with my 1st gen, but the 2nd gen just felt a lot different to me.

Yes V6 Auto is the one with shifting transmission issues

A dog, yes but a running dog. I wonder how many Dodge owners can say that at 128,000 miles?

I'm not bashing it, just felt pretty sluggish. This guy bought his truck a few months ago and already has 12k miles in it. Obviously he does a lot of driving so this truck totally fits his purpose. My buddy had a 2.7 in his 1st gen and the thing was a beast. 5 speed manual transmission though and single cab. I felt like it was a bit underpowered in these new trucks. With the extra weight and the v6 not being that much more that's what I would opt for personally.

Also another thing I can add, I didn't like how small the windshield is sitting in the truck. I'm shorter, about 5'8" and I felt like my head was close to the roof of the vehicle. Now I can see how some the taller guys feel, especially on the trucks with the moonroof.

I understand. It ain't for everybody. I'm just thrilled to have A/C that makes ice cubes.
