Bed extender is my preference as it can hold more weight plus easier to load. My kayak is on the heavy size over 80lb and 13'6" so this is what I use.

These are permanently bolted to the bed, the racks slide into them. Took a little bit of cutting and drilling, but not much. Metal was a bit thin behind the tailight housing so I used extra large washers. This might not be everyone's cup of tea, my truck is my DD and weekend runner, so it isnt kept pristine. I like saving money and making things work.

i only have 10' sit ins, and with some PVC, i made a rack to stand them on their sides.

its shaped like a double U and the yaks sit in the center of them. like 10 bucks worth of PVC tees and elbows.

I just purchased the Northern Tool Ironton 4 post Utility Truck Bed rack! Right now it's $50 off and only $79.99. What's great about this thing is that it's ready to accept hardware to bolt it straight to the BED RAILS in our Tacoma's. Can't believe I haven't see anybody post this yet or figure out that this thing works with the bed rails. I will be using it to haul Kayaks as we just got a travel trailer and used to just put them in the back on the bed, but they are too long with our travel trailer. I didn't want to pay $300 and up for a rack and this fit's perfect. Sturdy too.
It'll take me about 5 to 10 minutes to remove also as I just use the t-slot nuts off of Amazon and a socket wrench. Comes off in 1 big piece.

Keeps it solid and out of the way so we can still pull the RV.

I had one similar to mulletmans and i ordered it online from HomeDerpot then picked it up at one of their stores. It was only like 80 bucks. It was called the EZ Load extender i believe. You can configure it 2 ways. One way is flat straight out the hitch the other way is vertical like a goal post. I bought a yakima cross bar to go on my cab and my kayak sits perfectly level on top of both bars. Join the kayak/canoe thread on here for more ideas.

I don't have a picture but, below is what my set up is.

    OEM Roof rack
480r Thule foot pack (think that's the right number)
    Thule bars
Thule Hullivator - Love this!!!! Used it on Honda Pilot and Honda Accord too. Worth the money in my opinion.
