Anyone towing a 18'-19' bass boat with a gen 3 ? I currently have a 2014 DCSB 4x4 TRD OR with the 4.0. My lease will be up in about 7 months. I've been going back and forth between buying it out from the lease and keeping it, trading it for a gen 3 when the lease is up, or maybe a full size truck. I've only towed the boat a couple times with the current Taco, as I'm restoring the boat. Just wondering how the new truck tows ? I would be looking at a 2016 or 2017 DCSB 4x4 TRD OR again. I'm not to keen on going full size as I like the size of the Taco and the mpg for me now is 18.5 everyday to work and back compared to my buddies new Chevy that has only touched 15 mpg once in 7 months.

I would keep the 2014 for another year.

If the question is about towing the 3rd gen will tow it just fine. The towing capacity is higher on the 3rd gen than the 2nd gen.

Towing capacity is up by a smidge but most people will tell you the 4.0 tows better than the 3.5L. Better low-end torque on the 4.0. I don't care about max HP being more on the 2016. You have to get to 6,000 RPM's to get there and peak torque comes on 500 RPM higher in the 3.5L and it is less torque than the 4.0.

I pulled my 17' boat this past week on a 500 mile round trip and was not impressed. It will get you there & back but gave up way to easy on hills and the rpms were higher than my liking for a long trip. I pulled this same boat with a 2005 for years and it handled the hills fine. My 2 cents worth would be to stay with the 2014.

Keep the '14 !!! My '16 barely has enough low end torque to pull its own weight . The power is great above 3000 rpm but sucks from idle to 3000.
If you do plan to pull a boat with a '16 plan to use sport mode and keep it revved up , the days of low rpm trailer pulling are over for the tacomas now

There is no chance in hell my '16 would ever pull a full size pickup as well as my 2011 did

I pulled it on the highway for 230 miles from Elko nv to slc ut. I had the cruise set at 65 and got 15mpg lol
I wish I still had my 2011 it was an awesome truck.

I pulled quite a few full size trucks with that taco

Dude why'd you get rid of it? I flirted with buying a 2015 right before the 2016's came out. I was so close to pulling the trigger but got swayed by all the new gadgetry and interior overhaul on the 3rd gen. Wishing like hell I'd have just got the 2015 now. Now I'm stuck.

We went through some tough times money wise in 2013 , and to save money had to Trade the '11 Tacoma on a '13 Prius that we still own.... Great commuter car but I miss my taco
I bought a 2012 access cab 4x4 4.0 6speed in 2014 , great truck but lost reverse in the trans randomly at 21,000 miles
I should have bought a 2015 as well but wanted the nice shiny new '16.
I feel like Toyota lied to me about fuel mileage and as a result I made a poor choice ,

I will own a trd pro 4 runner before the end of the year though.
