Had a 97 tacoma for a long time that i had to let go of about 5 months ago.

Im sure this question has been asked a million times and I've searched, just wanted to get some opinions on here.. (hopefully this is the right section for this question)

In a couple months ill be moving into a place that has a nice garage and some 220 power for a welder and i want to get/build a dedicated crawler (non op) that can keep up with the big boys. Budget wise id rather not go too crazy with spending but i also want to do it right the first time.

Looking for suggestions on starting platforms for my build. Really considering an 80's toyota pickup or 4runner (Wouldn't mind a 95-04 tacoma either), SFA or not will put one in if it doesn't have one.. Also considering an 85-95 suzuki samurai (with toyota axles maybe?). The old toyota FJ's & LC's seem expensive so those are pretty much out of the question.

Not really sure how far i want to take it as far as engine and transmission swaps but I'm not opposed to it.

    thanks!
