Dual USB Outlet (Backseat\Cup Holder) Installation

I don't have a fucking clue about wiring.

Only wiring I do is what I need to do for work and I'm not having to actually think about it.

@Iggy. is a wiring wizard, but not sure he's around much at the moment. Just had a baby a few weeks back, but hopefully he'll chime in when he can.

 

OP has a pic of 10g wire, yet the add-a-circuit will only be 16g.

Jesus. I don't think the door locks draw 20 amps.

 

That is what I pulled out was a 20amp fuse

 

I don't want to give you bad electrical advice, as I pull off a separate block. So I couldn't tell you for sure.

Even following a chart like this



That charger only puts out 3.1A. That's not a terribly high draw.

 

That all looks Japanese to me brother. I hope someone chimes in to say whether having those 2 10amp fuses in the door fuse section is okay

The chart says your cable run should be more than enough for the ~3A

Yeah. If the actuators are less than 10A you should be golden.

Hey Mr. electrical man @Up2NoGood any thoughts on my set up? When I installed the mirror kit from you we used the AC 7.5 fuse slot. So I just installed a dual USB in my truck in the rear of the console as in this thread. And used the door lock fuse which was a 20amp yellow fuse. I used a blade fuse holder and put 2 10amp fuses in it, Should I be good to go or will I need higher fuses???

 

Are you guys wondering if tapping into the fuse panel is cool for an outlet?

If so, I wouldn't do it. Usually people want the extra cig outlet for charging things (the two USB charger included) but if you want to power something else I would advise against it. My biggest thing is running too much power from the fuse panel. There's no sense in potentially frying that thing for $30 in parts.

Here's what I would do, I would use the fuse tap to get power from the ignition so there's only power while the truck is running or the key is switched. Then I would run a "hot" wire from the battery to a relay. The relay would supply power to the cig outlet and the fuse tap would trigger it on or off.

I know that may not make sense to some, but I could possibly wire something like this up for someone if they would like.

I can build you something? Just give me word and all you have to do is plug into the fuse and run a wire to the battery.
