Alright, I've started to notice very minor rust spots on my paint, and upon looking at it some more I think I've got very little paint left on top of the primer. I don't quite want to get my entire truck repainted, I was wondering what I can do to buff out the rust and kind of reseal the paint so to speak. Would a clay bar treatment work here?

Clay bar will not work it's used for removing imperfections in the clear coat. You need to sand the rust out, fill it ,primer ,paint, clear.

So you need to go to a body shop and discuss the best plan of attack

You will definitely get some good advice here that will help you chose the best plan of attack

Have any pics? Tiny metal particles (ex. railroad dust) will embed in your paint & they will leave tiny rust spots. I've had several white vehicles over the years & these spots stand out like a sore thumb. If this is the issue a clay bar should remove most of this. Here is an example of what I'm referring too:

I haven't taken pics but it's about like that but not even that many. Just in a few spots like around the plastic fender, above the rear drivers side door and bottom of drivers door

I'd be trying a product like this, as well, before sealing it up.

Spray it on... It will turn purple in contact with iron. Follow the directions. Should help to a good degree. Lots of guys using it over on the autogeek forum if you'd like some tips.

I appreciate all the suggestions guys. I'll figure out what route I'm going to go.

The iron-X is just another regular step in the detailing process for those pros over on AG (even if it doesn't look like it needs it). Basically, to prevent what you've got going on (i.e. To catch it early). I'd check in with someone over there on how much it would improve your situation. It's not just snake oil, I can tell you that.

Harpolith is 100% correct. Iron X is another step I use before claying (actually nanoskin auto scrub). I found that with a silver truck it's a must to remove metallic contaminants in the clear coat.
