I am taking it easy the first couple of miles. I'm waking up myself too haha. Thanks for the reminders.:hattip:

It'll heat up faster If you drive it lightly the first 5 minutes. People that start their vehicles and then let them idle 10 minutes are just wasting gas. High idle when cold is normal.

My sti takes way less time to warm up but smaller engine. Just be easy on it until warm.

With the watercooled built in exhaust manifold I would have thought this engine would warm up super fast!

One of my tractors holds 19 qts. of engine oil. Not sure how long it takes it to "warm up". During a 5 year time frame, over many engine start ups, I can discern a difference in the sound of the engine when it is "ready to go". The sound and vibrations just kinda smooth out. Even before the temp gauge moves. You just have to form a relationship with the engine. If that makes any sense. Not entirely unlike our fuel gauges.

    NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

we have an electric heater for cold engine starts. You will get hot air long before the heater core warms up by engine coolant!

I see you live in So Cal, electric heaters are for cold country. MN, AK, Canada. :)

I think what @Z50king was trying to say was that the new Tacomas come with electric heaters. So 30 seconds after turning on your engine, you will have hot/warm air coming from the vents.

Albeit, this is a great feature, we now have to rely on the temp gauge to see if we truly have a warm enough engine. And if warm, is the engine still holding a high idle?

I was replacing the sparks on my 4runner and turned it on from a cold start. It took ~1 min for the idle to settle at 600 rpm(normal). I love these 2.7L engines. They are just so easy to work on. But the true down side it that they are turtle slow. :turtleride:

It was confirmed via the parts fiches by Jeff Lange. US and Canadian models have the electric heater for cold starts

I think this is a thing with aluminum engines. Other v6 aluminium engines I've driven were all shitty to drive in the winter. Took forever to warm up, where as the i4 with the iron block heats up super quickly.

I thought that only the heads were aluminum.

FWIW ... mine seems to heat up fairly fast ... drive slow 3 blocks out of the subdivision and it's starting to warm up ... granted, it's not seen winter yet.
