AMP Power Boards

    Clazzio vinyl seat covers, decal, auto drop running boards, chrome rear letters chrome rear tail light bezels and bed release cover. Painted grill, polished aluminum cover over black grill in sport hood. Polished alum. wheels. Form fitting flor mats
    I have just received them. I watched a video of installation on you tube, Tacoma specific too? The video covered a lot and was very helpful. It did however point out a specific problem, but did not cover how to overcome the problem. When exposing the wires to make the connection, it said to connect to the pink wire, and then said there were four pink wires, then it went on to say by trial and error you will find the right one. But it did not tell how to run the trial and error test. I know I want to find the door ajar wire, but am I to cut into all the wires to find it? Confused in WV

    I don't know the details, but if you have access to a connector, you can "back-pin" for a connection by using a needle or other slim metallic object to make connection with the metal contact inside the connector (usually, depends on the connector I suppose).

    if you only have access to the wires, then you can use a piercing probe which uses a small needle like point to puncture the insulation and reach the conductor inside the wire.

    Once you have contact using one of the above methods, you can use a multimeter to look for a change of voltage when you open the door.

    Again, this is my best guess based on the very limited information provided. I don't even know what an AMP Power Board might be.

    I am sorry but I left the word running out of my post. They are power running boards and the wire I am suppose to find is the one that sends a signal to the dash board letting driver know that door is ajar. So if I hook up to it when the door opens the running boards drop down. But what you have just described sounds like great advice. I guess I would just try to find a common ground for the other wire then?

    If you are just measuring, yes. Any obvious ground should work. I have not seen the wiring diagram for the this truck, so I am making some assumptions, but I think it's pretty safe to say you would see a voltage change between the correct wire and ground when you open and close the door.

    I believe you can edit the title of your own thread, so you could add "Running" if you want. I knew it sounded familiar. They are nice-but-expensive. I'd like to come up with a low-tech alternative step that doesn't give up any ground clearance and works with sliders.
