I have a new 2016 Tacoma TRD Off-Road which makes it my 3rd Tacoma of my driving career. I have loved each one for different reasons but the 2016 is a sweet ride. Smooth and quiet driving but the quirky automatic shifting (high-low-high) at speeds of between 60-70 mph takes some getting use to. It seems Toyota missed the mark on the electronic transmission. I am not sure what the issue is. Has anyone heard the story on this little issue?

    Love my Taco!

Nice lookin truck! Welcome to the club!

The transmission shifting takes some getting used to, and you will find a lot of info on TW in regard to the 2016 automatic (and A LOT of complaining/whining). Most of the shifting seems to be attributed to attempting to help fuel mileage. I've gotten used to it, but it definitely takes some getting used to when comparing it to my 2010 Tacoma Trd off road.

I can't complain because I'm getting better fuel mileage than my 2nd gen, and with time mine seems to be shifting when I want it to/when I think it should.

Here is some good info to check out in regard to low automatic transmission fluid, which some say helps the shifting between 4-5-6 gears and also the cold morning delay shifting from park to drive.

Might be a good thing to look into even if not everyone has the problem.

These 3rd gens are great trucks and so far I'm loving mine (even more than my 2nd gen). Give it some time, and take a lot of the guys on here complaints/whining with a grain of salt.

    Congrats on the new truck!

    Congratulations on your new truck.

My 6 speed automatic doesn't shift back n forth like the others. I must be lucky. However the cruise control is retarded, why is it in 4th gear going 65mph. I'll never know but putting it in S6 seems to help. Other than that, I love my 3rd gen.

Nice! I'm new too with my first TRD Sport! Are those the stock Predator nerf bars on your truck?
