I have a 2011 Base 2.7L AC with ~165,000mi. The cat just went out, and since I live in the wonderful state of CA, I can't get any aftermarket cats...

I've decided to get a 3rd gen OR (haven't decided '16 or '17). Is it even worth fixing before trading it in?

What's it worth now on trade in?
    What's a cat cost?
What's it worth then on trade in?

If you make more than you spend and it's worth the time and effort, fix it. If it isn't, then it isn't.

haha, thanks for taking my dilemma and making it simple, now I feel like an idiot...

Did more digging and the dealership quoted it at $1500 less.
The cats cost anywhere between $300 and $500, and the repair is less than $100
Logic says the repair is the better option, but I've looked everywhere online and at local shops, and no one carries 50 state legal cats...

Next step is tracking down a cat, but thanks for the help. Pretty sure I'll repair it as long as I can track one down.

FWIW, Toyota just paid the bill for my cat replacement and it was $1400.

So that $1500 ding is pretty accurate, at least in comparison.

Thanks for the confirmation, hopefully I can work it out for less.

Does your truck fall within the recall on the cats. I think it's certain 2010-2014 2.7's. The cats on my 2013 were replaced for a recall

Just checked and it qualifies! I didn't even know there was a recall! just got off the phone with the dealership and he said he'd give me full value for the truck since they have to do the repair free of charge anyway!

Bro, you just saved me time, money, and the headache of figuring out this garbage. When I get my 3rd Gen Taco, I just might name it Steve!
