Yes I did. I was looking for an online reservation system that showed availability. I'm thinking they don't have it. That website tells you to submit the form via mail or fax, which is fine.

    Thanks

If you plan on going to toroweap, just know that it can get 'warm' there in July. But it is definitely worth a visit & camping there is very cool. If no permits are available, you can still camp up at mt trumbull instead for free. It should be a little cooler up there as well.

I obviously haven't done enough research, but I assumed it would be the same temp as the south rim and would start warming up as you went to the bottom. I guess it is lower in elevation than the south rim?

Looks like 4,600 at Toroweap. South Rim is around 7k and North Rim is around 8k. The Kaibab Plateau north of the north rim peaks at 9,200.

Geeeez, I'm sitting on my phone at the house, haha.

Assuming you haven't been to AZ before, the variation in elevation/topography/climate is impressive. I grew up in AL/GA/TN, so I have a decent idea of what Arkansas is like.

Just as reference, the highest point in AR is 2,763' ASL. The Grand Canyon is as much as 6,093' deep from the rim to river. Phoenix is in the Sonoran Desert at about 1,600-1,800' ASL. Taking I-17 north to Flagstaff takes you to 7,000 with some ups and downs in between. The San Fransisco Peaks get over 12k right outside Flagstaff. Then the high elevation plains/scrub desert from there to the Grand Canyon.

If you have the option for coming or going via I-10 to see some of the variety versus slipping in via I-40, I'd recommend it.

Thanks for the insight. I'll check the map out and maybe take some different routes.
