    What's up fellow Tacoma enthusiast:

Unfortunately, my Tacoma got rear ended and it seems the transmission got moved. So, I think but not sure what happened to it. When I put the shift stick in "D" is actually in Neutral. So, I have to down one position to D2 to put it into drive mode.

Does any one know what happened? How much does it cost to fix? or is it a quick fixed?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

you lost a clutch band inside your transmission. it will NEED to be rebuilt. this isn't a guess, this isn't even an educated guess. on the slim chance that a solenoid was jogged a bit, you can try giving it a fluid change to see if it works after that. but most likely, something internally was damaged and the band isn't grasping the clutch it needs to inside.

I'd check the linkage and see if adjusting that helps. When mine was a little out of adjustment It would sometimes be in 2nd when It appeared to be in drive. After I adjusted the linkage it fixed that and also a problem I was having switching the transfer case into low gear with the truck running.

When you select 2nd Is it really Drive or is it 2nd? Can you still use 3rd and 4th gear?

D2 is till works as D. At time the lever is between D and D2 but once I push it forward to D. It clicks in place. Sometimes is all the way down to D2.
