    So ....

Rolled the timbers out of the shop for the last time so we could pick them up and load them on the truck to run them out to the pond

I discovered earlier in the day one of my posts had a pretty significant twist in it , you can see by sighting through the temporary stops that the post tops and braces definitely don't line up .

Not sure if that post was that bad before or spun a bit in the sun yesterday

I was thinking it was gonna be Big Trouble in Little China to get that beam situated so my solution was to slack the bottom bolts that connect the post to the deck framing and rig up a lever so I could twist the post into alignment ( hopefully ) once we had the weight of the beam perched on top

Took about 1 1/2 hours but we got them all landed with the help of a chain hoist to persuade the timbers to move into place

I'm still fighting a bit of a twist in one main timber but I'm going to deal with that tomorrow , run the rest of the GRK RSS connectors in all the pieces and get a coat of stain on the beams

    I'll bring my largest bong.

Dying to see what the roof is like. Broad eaves, low pitch?

Concrete slate tile , 2' flat soffits on the eaves and 2' gable overhang , 7/12 pitch , fishscale cedar shingles on the gables , it just basically mimics the other buildings there

Well all my lumber got delivered yesterday. So I get to work on a 12x16 shed this weekend. Be fun since I have built anything with wood in quite some time and miss it

I plan to take pics. Won't be anything fancy. The roof trusses will be interesting. Instead of 2x4's they gave me 2x8's. Letting me keep the 2x8s at same cost since it would cost them more to send the driver back and have him sort them (they put them on the bottom of everything). So I'm deciding if I want to do the roof with them or buy more 2x4 and use the 2x8 for something else

that's a score!......i'll be going with 2x6 rafters. I've seen alot of sheds in my business and most sheds with 2x4's eventually start sagging. The cost offset isn't that much on a small shed.

Yeah it wasn't terribly more for 2x8 over 2x4 so that's why the lumber company said keep it. Think it was all of like 50 buck difference which for them isn't worth it (driver coming to get it would be an hour plus restocking it time).

2x4 is pretty common where I live but we only deal with rain and not snow loads or anything. But since I have the 2x8 I'm thinking I'll change my truss design to allow more space for storage

I have a 11X16, I put a new roof on a few years ago and the inspector required 2X6 2' on center with collar ties every other (over the 11' span). Kinda cut into my loft storage (which I recommend) but it worked out good:thumbsup:

Didn't get quite as much done today as I had hoped , no staining but got all the connections done .

Wrestling the twist out of some of the posts and timbers proved to be a bit more time consuming than I thought , I used a combination of the chain hoist and some big bar clamps but in the end I'm pretty happy with all the joints

These are the 16" GRK RSS screws used to connect the timbers and posts , the braces got 8" GRK RSS screws

I used a 3/4" forstner bit for a clean hole that snugly housed the head of the RSS screws and allows me the ability to use a 3/4" plug on the exposed connections if I decide to later

Post to beam is 3 screws and main timber to crossing timbers is 2

I think I'll come back in the morning to stain the beams rather than let them crack out in the sun all weekend
