I just took the state exam this morning, and I scored 85 out of 100. Pass. I am so excited. Four years of taking classes at night after work has finally come to fruition. I am on cloud nine right now

    god damn
IBEW 353 our rate is $42 and change

Isn't it in the states where you guys only do one thing though? Like conduit guys will only do conduit and then someone comes and pulls wire? And each part has a different pay?

To become a journey man do you have to take classes or can you study on your own? I am looking to possibly switch fields if I get laid off soon. Didn't realize electricians in SD made so much about the same as my current job. I realize id have to apprentice but it seems more my kinda work although working outside would have to get used to.

Either show you have 8000 verified hours in commercial, residential, and industrial for the General electrician title. Or go through one of many state certified apprenticeship programs while you're getting paid for it. Last route...I don't recommend due to lack of field experience but the classroom hours at local community college. You can pass the state test and be a journeyman but your lack of experience will hurt if don't have them.

Thanks for the info. In your perspective do you think there is a big field growth for the future?
