My objective to to put my iTunes music on a flash drive and use the USB flash drive for my music. I will tell you now that I have tried several things, but I cannot even get my truck to even recognize a flash drive, and I have tried several, so i must be doing something wrong. So can anyone point me to a tutorial that can explain this process. I am not the most tech savvy when it comes to file manipulation etc. The usb port does work, because I can plug in an old iPod and it works fine. Trying to eliminate cords. Not interested in bluetooth. I am a total noob with this stuff. I am working on a Mac. Thanks in advance.

Take drive put it on your mac and run disk utility. Verify that it is formatted to MS-DOS (FAT).
I had the same issue b/c I had formatted the usb drive to mac, works great now.
    Cheers!

I have formatted all the flash drives that I have tried to MS-DOS(Fat) via Disk utility. I have also gone to source and tried to read the USB stick, but USB is greyed out and It can not be selected. When I plug in the iPod it is accessible to choose. So i know that the USP port works. Obviously I am doing something wrong when transferring the files. Don't know what else to say. I can read the stick and the files on it. I am looking for some type of youtube tutorial so I can see what is being done.

Mine only plays the tunes I downloaded from iTunes - not the stuff I burned from CDs (virtually all of the music). I verified that the format is correct and the folder schema is identical - not sure what to check next.

    Any ideas are appreciated!

You must format it to FAT32 (not FAT16, NTFS, or iOS).

you may know this i don't know, when i rip a song off a CD or the web it downloads as mp3 i then put it in a file on my computer under music, sub file i-tunes music. now i know where it resides in my computer then i go to i-tunes and click "import file" and highlight the file (song) in the sub file i mentioned. now when you import to i-tunes all it is doing is creating a link back to the song that still resides in the sub file. the song is NOT moved into i-tunes even though it is listed in the i-tunes music library. so if you try to grab it from the i-tunes library you are not grabbing the song. i don't know if this is of any help as i posted before try playing the USB drive in a non mac computer, like a friends. you need to prove the USB stick plays the music you copied to it.

So I have had some success. The drive was formatted but it had a GUID sp? partition on it. So in a windows machine I went into MS-Dos command prompts and performed a disk clean. Then I formatted the drive on my Mac using MS-DOS(FAT) under Master Boot Record. I copied several albums to the flash drive and the music is recognized and plays in entunes. The songs are all AAC format and not MP3 but they play just fine. Now I am having issues with some songs playing and others not playing Working on this issue now.
Thank you for all of your help and support.

the way i always format a USB stick is right click on it and a drop down menu appears with "format drive" as a option... click on it and it gives an option of format type you want and choose FAT32 and it formats....i have no idea how stuff works in a Mac...
