Combo Roof Rack / Truck Rack

Hello all, yes my firs post! I finally made the switch, no more Fords, first Toyota. Just bought a Tacoma TRD Sport Access Cab V6 2wd. I need to be able to travel with our canoe on occasion am considering an unusual answer. I'd like to consider installing a Yakima Naked Rood Baseline Single Roof Rack on the cab and a solo / Thule X Sportster 500 on the rear of bed only. That way I'd have a good eight feet or so between tie downs to really secure the canoe as I like.
Have any of you seen such a combination? Would love to see a picture to make sure it doesn't look a bit strange.

Im looking to space 2 cross racks out, 1 on my bed cap rails installed, the other over my cab. Theres to many varients out there to figure out what to do

 

There are MANY trucks set up like that out here in Hawaii. There's a shop a few miles from my house that will sell you the bed rack and roof rack combo. She orders sets and breaks them up/pairs them how you like. Plenty of construction guys and paddlers like them.

 

I was just gonna say that. That's in our taco DNA most of us have some sort of system on our trucks to carry kayaks and stand up paddle boards.

This is exactly what I was after, thank you. Now I can say I'm not the only one out here that was after a different approach.

 

I went with OEM roof racks and TracRacs. Modded the TracRacs to work with the roof racks. I went that route for extra strength when hauling ladders and material. AlohaMade's setup is PERFECT for longboards and paddleboards.

 

I'm going to do the same thing. I will use the bare roof kit to add the channel, then use a roof height rack for the back.

 

Does anybody on here know if the thule tracker ll Feet will still work with the podium Landing Pads that replaced the tracker?

 

not sure if this will help out but my kayak is 13.5 ft and about 90 lbs as is. I only rig it "right side up" because of the mounted pole holders and because I load it by myself. I thought about adding another bar near the front for stability but I drive this thing 3 hours down the road at 85 mph and it doesn't budge.

(if it did, it would probably still just slide for half a mile. It's made by pelican.)

 

How did the Thule Xsporter mount with the bed rails? Any issues?

 

Has two clamps for each side and they slide of over. At first it was a little tight so I used rubber mallet to get the clamps moving now they just slide on and off when I loosen them up.
