As the title suggests, I am looking for suggestions to get a little improvement of the on road ride quality of my 2013 Tacoma 4wd SR5. I have seen plenty of other posts similar but didn't really find what I was looking for.

I recently put larger 265/75/16 BFG KO2 tires on and it killed the ride quality of the truck. I can feel every little bump on the road and on larger bumps it feels like it kicks the whole truck sideways. I don't do any off-roading so I am trying to get the best on-road ride quality. It currently has stock shocks with 80k mile so I guess the first place to start would be to replace them. Since the tires are heavier than stock would I be better off to go with something light and not an offroad shock to allow the suspension to react quicker on bumps? I'd like to start with shocks only but I'm not opposed to changing the front coils if it doesn't get too expensive. What would be a good smooth riding shock to look at? I've read several posts where people say Monroe's will ride the best but others that say Monroe is junk and have a lot of problems with leaks.

Am I going to find anything that makes the ride improvement worth the money spent or am I wasting my time?

    Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: I think most of the trouble is coming from the rear end. Is there an option to go with softer leaf springs without causing it to sag? Would this help or would shocks make a bigger difference?

I know that if you buy an F-150, and kind of massage it into the Tacoma with heavy elbow grease, it usually fixes the problem

really though stock tire size, Michelin LTX series tires, at 32 psi, is pretty much
the ideal way to smooth a road going tacoma

I have a 2013 TRD OR 4x4 with the same BFG T/A KO2 265/75R16 tires. I had a 2" Toytec BOSS Suspension System installed a few years ago and I love the set up. Rides very comfortable and no squeaking coming from the bushings. I do drive off road up and down a mountain and the tires combined with the suspension eat up anything I throw at it. With this set up, it handles off road with ease and is smooth and quiet on the highway. I was looking into more expensive lifts, but the Service Consultant I work with recommended the Toytec BOSS Suspension System because of its durability and quiet bushings compared to race type lifts like Fox, King and ICON. Plus the cost is much less than the race type lifts. I was impressed because he did not try to sell me a more expensive lift, but recommended the Toytec BOSS because of experience with other kits and how they perform. The biggest selling point was less maintenance and bushings squeaking after 1 year. From what he told me, a lot of race type lifts need to be rebuilt and bushing replaced frequently. For my applications, this set up works perfectly. I'm not entering the Baja 1000 and racing my truck. Just daily driving with off road reliability. The cost for a complete Toytec BOSS Suspension System with Light Racing UCA costs around $1800 plus S&H. I had my lift installed at the dealership with an alignment and everything went smooth. Great alignment, the LR UCA help a lot with the camber. With this lift you can keep the stock ride height or raise it up to 3" and change it easily. I have mine set at 2" and I love the look and the ride. I hope this info helps you with your issues. The BFG T/A KO2 are awesome tires! My favorite.

It sounds like you switched from stock tires to an E load rated tire. Have you played with tire pressure yet? You can gain a little better ride with upgrading your shocks to 5100's and keeping your stock coils for around $300. Ride height will be the same, and you have the option of going higher, or changing your coils out later.
