So been working on a few things and I'll try to update some of that but... I'm going to quote a thread I started. Let me know if you have any opinions on this.

Well I guess it'd make more sense if you could see them haha. :facepalm:So the spring clamps are actually threaded on one side and they use a bolt across the top. They definitely limit flex. I think it'd be better if I could have clamps on the 2nd or maybe even third then that would help the main but...:notsure:

I went to the other thread and saw the pics. You definitely get a ton a separation when you have them out so id leave em in.

    :bananadead:

But it limits sooo much! You're right though, definitely a lot of separation of that main from the rest of the pack. :cookiemonster:

Sounds like he stopped doing DIY kits. Been out of the loop I guess.

Well I'm a little bored and don't have much to update on this so I might ramble a bit...

Working on finding a new place to live and then maybe I'll get some more work done on the 80 and maybe actually wheel it. Got quite a few plans.

I always figured dana 60 knuckle/c's/housing failures were rare and shit that only happed to really beat rigs but my bud, who admittedly does beat his rig hard, just cracked an outer knuckle. Guess it just became a little real for me. Yeah they were ford knuckles (known to crack in that exact same spot) but he does have double shear. Either way it got me thinking I really need to go double shear steering and plate my knuckles next time I do any work to the front. And gusset the Cs.

I have a 2x8 ram, 2" .25 dom tie rod and a new psc pump to install too so I'll probably find a way to run double shear when I do that.

    bad ass 80 series!

So yea, the Ford D60 knuckles are known to crack. Haven't heard of the Chevy's having that issue though. But if you want to have peace o of mind, go with knuckles from Solid Axle Industries.

They are cheaper than Reids and are essentially the same massive piece of beef. The biggest difference between the Solid Axle knuckles and the Reids is that Solid's tops are keyed, which eliminates the need to use studs. So the steering arms attache bolts instead, which is way easier to install/remove/maintain. You will need to get their steering arms though, as regular arms will not work for obvious reasons. Artec Industries also has custom arms for these knuckles.

I actually have their chevy knuckles on my Ford D60 :D They are just massive and I have double sheer. Pretty strong set up.

And this is how they look like with all steering components:

The knuckles theselves are like 400 bux for the pair...maybe less if you shop around and find a dealer that can shave more of the price off.

Where these get expensive, sadly, is with the arms...because you need custom arms that work with the keyed tops.

So I guess at the end SOLID and Reids come to about the price :angrygirl:
