So, before I went out and bought new hangers to try, I tried the most simple thing. I removed the front driver side hanger, the one closest to the cross member holding the transfer case. I've only driven about 5 miles with it like this. In a nutshell, no significant change.

My first impression is that the tone of the exhaust changed a bit. But the overall volume is the same and I can still feel vibration through the steering wheel and gas pedal.

Hopefully tomorrow is a drier day, I'll spend some more time under the hood.

I'm learning TOYOTA is horrible and doesn't fix complaints and wants to hide and bury their heads.

But My great Dealer is fixing my truck so I cannot say anything but good about them. Toyota is another story.

9 new Corvettes and GM is great Toyota is not.

I've read most of these types of posts and I've decided to commit some dollars to it. There was a great thread on a Porsche forum, somebody got an aftermarket exhaust he wanted to keep and was trying to get rid of the drone at cruising speed and he was able to be successful. I took note since many people have said they just welded a set on and everything was great. Which, I'm sure is unlikely to be the case - or would not be to my satisfaction. The guy working on his 911 went through many iterations of trial and error.

I just need to find a decent muffler shop would be willing to weld in a "T" to the exhaust for me...

Their are many of us new owners that are not getting help by toyota with our 35000 dollar vibrating 2016 tacoma trucks. We have case numbers already but ignored. Read this link and figure the problem out instead of hiding behind "it is normal". It is not a normal vibration when your foot goes numb and hands from a vibrating steering wheel. This almost caused me to wreck having to continually taking my foot off pedal on long trips. Here is the link to tacoma world. Read all especially the last 15 pages.

I really liked the idea few pages ago of the affected owners drafting a joint letter, signing it and providing their VIN numbers, and individual Toyota case #s. They will have harder time telling you they never heard about the issue from anyone else. Next step, chip in for a lawyer to follow up with a strong letter. This may get their attention.

I really think we need to organize a facebook and twitter "march" and hit them with #16tacomasucks #16tacomaLEMONS type hashtags and lets see if we can get them trending. They have entire divisions dedicated to monitoring those mediums and if we can cause a big enough blip on the twitter or facebook radar, we might get the attention of someone who matters.

Didn't get a chance to spend more time under the hood on Sunday to see if there are any other vibration paths closer to the engine.

I now about 100 miles w/o the hanger in all sorts of mixed driving. The rpm range of the vibration is now slightly narrower - instead of a 500 rpm range, it's now maybe 400rpm. Maybe there is some cognitive bias. HOWEVER, the peak vibration and exhaust boom seems about 50% worse.

I have a steady uphill grade at 35mph on the last mile before home. On my way home, I was turning a stead 2100rpm on that section. It was EASILY louder than my '98 standard cab with the bare metal panel behind the bench seat and the rusted out muffler. I was too upset to pull out my phone and get the sound level meter going for some objective measurement. Well, the whole distracted driving thing too.

I'm going to put the hanger back on because I have a splitting headache now. Unfortunately I'm really busy at work but will see if late next week or the week after I can get a muffler shop to "T" the exhaust so I can make a Helmholtz resonator.

I was wondering if anybody out there has a gen2 Taco. If you do, I'd like to know what the diameter and length of a stock muffler is.

Nice job. Clearly this engine/exhaust related, no doubt about it now.

It's strange however it got worse, I expected it to get better. Are there more rigid mounts there? (I think somebody said there are two). Maybe remove both?
