Hey everyone, I was involved in a hit and run Friday night/ Early Saturday morning around 3am. The other driver was more than likely drunk. I was driving down Kirkman road in metro west and made a left hand turn onto Arnold Palmer dr when the other driver tried to go around me and basically rammed his passenger side into my driver side. I instantly stopped when I realized what happened but they did not. They slammed onto and hopped the curb ahead and almost drove into the lake, somehow missed the huge cement wall and trees by a foot or two and sped off almost hitting other cars and bouncing off of curbs left and right. I started to chase them go try to get the license plate number, meanwhile my brother and sister who were also in the truck with me were on the phone with the police. I continued to chase them back onto Kirkman road where the other driver proceeded to drive as fast as he could (I estimate around 85mph) meanwhile swerving in and out of traffic. The light was red ahead of him forcing the car to stop. I was able to catch up and get a clear view of the license plate number. When the light turned green he turned left onto LB McLeod and proceeded to drive on the left side against oncoming traffic (while still going around 85mph) because I could not catch him. So I pulled over before someone got hurt (still on the phone with police) and was instructed by the operator to stop and wait for a patrol car to show up. This was just past 3am.. Now fast forward to 5:30am a police officer finally shows up. Asks if were all ok, takes my license and runs it I'm assuming. Looks at the damage done which was minimal, I thought by the sound it made when he hit me that my whole driver side was destroyed. Goes back to his patrol car for a minute or so and hands me a little sheet of notebook paper with a case number on it. Says have a good night and sends me on my way... I still have not heard anything from investigators/detectives or anybody, I have no idea what my next move is? I was wondering if there are any members of law enforcement that could lend a hand here since I am literally in awe as to how little was done in effort to locate the other car even after i described to both the operator and the officer who showed up hours later how completely mental the other car was driving. He hit me and drove away!! All in all the only damage to my taco was the bumper came loose a little which I just popped back in place, the fender flares are scratched up and the front driver side wheel and tire are scratched pretty deep around the rim. The impact was so big that the other cars rear bumper came undone and was barely hanging on, the trunk lid popped open, it nocked two hubcaps loose and I'm pretty sure my wheel scraped all the way down the passenger side doors. It was a black Toyota Corolla with a big American flag sticker on the back right side and the Florida license plate read GDM 666. I went back the next day and picked up one of the hubcaps, the other was shattered into a bunch of small pieces. Any help would be appreciated everybody! (Sorry for the long read I did my best to explain the whole situation)

Here's a pic of how my wheel got scratched and the hubcap I got from him.

What a shame, Toyota on Toyota violence.

Good luck on the hunt. I'll keep an eye out up here in Michigan.

Not sure if I like the way you dealt with it, but will not offer any opinion.

Most importantly, no one was hurt. Sorry about your truck.

I'm just wondering what to expect out of this.. I'm not involving my insurance over a $140 wheel.. My question is basically are the police going to take it any further? Or is this other person pretty much just gonna get away problem free

My guess is they aren't going to put too much effort into it. If that car falls in their lap, what can they do? All that driver has to do is say, " it wasn't me driving that night, I don't know who had my car. I got up in the morning and it looked like what you see".

Like you said, its just a wheel. No one was hurt.

The locals most likely have a B.O.L.O out on the vehical. It's a side note that every shift commander passes along to the patrolman but it's very unlikely that anything will be found. The whole reason Iam part of Tacoma world is because I was rear ended in a hit and run in Orlando, it totaled my vehical, they never found the truck was hat hit me. I saved the info, I'll keep my eye out brother, I'm all over Orlando, surrounding areas as well as Tampa and south Florida on a weekly basis, if I get anything I will let you know.

the "locals" have a traffic homicide unit that investigates all hit and run crashes. The responding officer does a small report and it goes online. We no longer hand you anything other than a case number. Anyway, the part about the guy saying it wasn't me driving is absolutely true and this is why many of these cases go unsolved. However, if the victim can I'd the driver then we have a case. You got the tag which is a huge start! Hopefully the douche bag can be identified and be prosecuted.

Sorry had to go pick up my son from school and had to cut my last post somewhat short. Often in accident cases, hit and run cases, everyone looses. Also, friday night early sat morning emergency calls get priority over the hit and run. Even though you were chasing the car we don't consider that to be an emergency due to the fact that you are not supposed to do that and we won't get involved. that's why dispatch tells you to stop. If the guy hits and kills someone you will be liable and we don't want any part. Sorry, to say it but yes modern day law enforcement has come down to liability and civil attorneys making policy and justice. Forget the bad guy being on the hook for hitting you and making the decision to run, he has no money and nothing to sue for. They will go for the deeper pockets every time even if you have 10 bucs and the other guy has 5. Anyway I digress, don't be shocked, surprised or dismayed if the case is closed due to lack of investigative leads. I'm sure the officer did everything he could to find your suspect. I hate to say it cause I hate this saying but sometimes it is what it is. Orlando is full of shit bags and you found one of many that our wonderful legal system has failed to put in prison. I am sorry for your truck. I am very partial to Tacomas whenever I hear the vehicle description put out as a tacoma I always try to show up.

however, I am pretty sure i have seen a tag before ending in 666. it's not very common and i remember saying to myself dayum that sux. Anyway it was in one of 2 places that i can recall, it was a while ago. It was either in the apartment complex off lake debra dr. on the south side of lake debra. i forget the name of the complex plus they change every week, just south of gates of harbortown. Or, in the estates at park ave. off arnold palmer all the way in the back against the lake.
