Im looking at a 91 toyota pickup with a 3.4 swap and an auto trans, a little old lady drives it everyday, it has a 3.4! Swap! Guys! This lady doesnt really care for it much and i couldnt resist so i looked and drove the 4wd doesnt work at all no light indicator no shifting even tried 4lo and it still felt like 2wd hi which has me worried. I can see the linkage move properly but nothing happens shes asking 3900 what do you guys think

You try locking the manual hubs on front hubs?

What would be your intended use? Trail rig? DD?

How many miles does the engine/tranny have? Does she have receipts of anything? Maintenance records? How's the frame? Major rust? 4WD may need a new transfer case. What does your little brother think of it?

No rust motor has 120k all the rest has 230k and its the old trans but it shifts good motor is from a 96 tacoma and she only has reciets from some shop fixing stuff like wiring and fuel line routing i guess the guy who put it in wasnt exactly an expert im pretty on the fence with it because im constantly fixing my brothers honda and he wants a tacoma but cant afford one then theres this which is like half a tacoma abd also half the price but the damn 4wd doesnt work im thinking theres something electrical but without spending more time with it i can only speculate. I mine aswell pass on it but its a cool find and not a bad price for a 3.4 swapped pickup

I think passing was a good idea. It's definitely a cool truck, but there's bound to be hidden problems with the engine swap. Tell your little brother to keep an eye out for good deals on tacomas. They're rare but they happen. He should save up in the meantime.

Yeah, if this is for your little bro to use as a daily I'd pass too...it sounds like a cool find, if you were going to buy it on the cheap for yourself to fix up as a trail rig. Could end up being a daily, but it might take a lot of work, and if you're buying it for someone else who needs to rely on it then that's taking a big risk. Especially with the odds being against you since this rig has an engine swap by an unknown source and a faulty 4wd system.

Anyway, I recommend passing too...though maybe you should pick it up for yourself;)
