Hey guys, looking for some help. My buddy recently told me about some android tv box with lots of new content, movies, tv shows, live tv, ect. The box he got off Amazon for $30 bucks. His friends at work told him about it. He also bought this cool keyboard. I have an Apple TV but don't use it as the content sucks and you have to pay for everything. Only used it for Netflix a few times. It's an apple tv3. I know the 4th gen is out so maybe there is a jail break now where I can get free content? I'm about to go through a divorce and money is gonna start being tight. I'd love to drop my dish to save some money if something like this android tv box has no strings attached. Anyone know more about this stuff and have any suggestions?

unsure exactly what he is using

but you can use a raspberry pi for a lot of stuff like that but you will be at liberty to program it

or buy a Amazon box and do the same thing through kodi

This is the box. I see something with Kodi. Not sure what that is. He did say something about his buddy programming it. I said oh so it must be like a jail break. He said no. I figured you can't just buy this box and to have all the free content you want

Kodi (formerly XBMC) is home theater software, basically a library for all of your media. It's rooted (jailbroken), meaning you can modify the system files, or run services that require permissions you normally wouldn't have. As far as free content, there are probably apps on there that allow you to watch movies for free, though probably not legally.

I've been running XBMC/Kodi for years now and love it.
My wife doesn't care for it as it's not as brainless as thumbing through cable/satellite channels, but you can certainly watch all kinds of tv shows and movies for free.
I run it on one tv with a matricom gbox and on another with an old laptop. either works fine, but the gbox doesn't work as well wirelessly as the laptop so it's at the tv that has ethernet nearby.
google kodi and read up a bunch to see if it's for you. If you have an old laptop, try that before buying a box.

At the moment I'm torn between buying a FireTV, or using an old PC (i7-2600k) for a Kodi setup. Other than price, both as its ups and downs.

I currently have a DragonBox on one of my TVs, I can watch any show, movie or sports event I like. I am going to buy 2 more and will then cancel my cable provider (250/mo). The 2 new ones are not DragonBox but M9 PRO 3G which are only 80 bucks each. There is no service fee.
    Saving that 250/mo is huge!
