So there are a few that brew beer, @PS78 @skootx

So I am wondering if we wanted to do a brew and maybe mod day. I am set up to do all grain 11 gallon batches and we could do a beer for a meet and greet later this summer.

I prefer IPA/PA's and have a few decent recipes we can go with.

Here is a link to a few recipes I have brewed. They have all come out great.

Sounds good to me! I can do 10g all grain, and my setup is portable (just need a water line).

What do you use for fermenters? Carboys?

I have enough room that we could get both setups running at the same time to make 20 gallon! I might need to buy more kegs!

Yeah, I find 6.5 gal glass carboys work best.

I looked at that, as well as conicals but I brew in my garage and need to haul my fermenters down to the basement. I have dreams of going electric and moving everything down there, but skid plates come first. ;)

I'm in the same boat. I need another person to lift my keggle up a tier on my brew stand to rack to the fermenter and carry the fermenter to the basement.

I good electric is big money I don't see myself spending anytime soon!

Hey guys I'm thinking about starting to brew at home. I figured since I know you guys have great taste in truck beer shouldn't be too far off! I was wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction with the equipment to buy? I've looked up videos and different kits but I don't know where to start. Any advice would be great!

I homebrewed for 9 years and now Brew professionally (for almost 7 years). It's all about the budget..buy the best you can off the bat if you plan to stick with it. Otherwise it's like a Tacoma with no numbers, or lights, or suspension..you will upgrade to death. Stainless, no plastic..kegging is a hell of a lot better than bottling (unless you want bottles and dealing with that). Then it's all time, temperature, and having your shit so clean the Queen would eat off it!

As far as grains..extract, all grain, or partial..great beer can be made with all the options..extract is a good way to get your feet wet..got a rough batch? Dry hop the shit out of it..throw some fruit extract or just muscle through it..give it to a neighbor you don't like..and learn how to use a hydrometer.

I've been brewing professionally for 8 years, where do you currently brew at?

I've never home brewed so I couldn't help in that realm. All I can say is stainless is your friend and be ready to clean, clean and clean. Oh, and my favorite saying, "hurry up and wait".

Oh, copper wort chiller..run a garden hose to it. Game changer if you don't have a way to cool down post boil. $30-40. I made one in college and it saved so much time and made for a better beer

Worked at Rock Bottom for a great deal then started consulting for small breweries. Most recently Elk Mountain, Chain reaction and Platt Park Brewing. Im in the process of opening my own distillery in Denver now. Basically trying to advance distilling by 100 years by introducing the advances in fermentation and equipemnt we have gaining in the beer industry. The big guys are about to hate me.

You should look into home distillation. I have a basic pot still I got from a home brew shop on the cheap. Started taking home fermented beer and having fun with it. Turned out some pretty quality stuff that led me to opening the distillery. After all, a good whiskey does start as a good beer.

I'll put up a post to invite TW members for when we plan on having a few soft openings.

I was guest brewing a red IPA yesterday. Transferred to kettle, started mashing out and noticed the kettle temp was dropping. Found out the igniter went out. Heading back in to finish the boil now, 19 hours later. Longest "boil" I've ever had, lol.

Do you ever go into the Rock Bottom off 144th?

I have boiled the next day a few times, always worked out for me. I'm waiting for my starter to build up to pitch tomorrow am.

I live fairly close to that one but have only been there once or twice.
