    All,
I am trying to find a semi-permanent way to divide my truck bed "north to south". All truck bed dividers I see on the market are "east to west", or tire-to-tire.

    Any one have an ideas/suggestions?

I think the proper term for this division is "hot dog style."

A drop in I beam shaped piece would seem to be the only semi permanent in my mind.

I would bolt some kind of u beam or shelving part down in the bed, then use some plywood with a bracket at the front of the bed.

If you didn't want to drill through the bed, you could make a bracket that bolts to the d rings in the back or to the bed bolts.

I think you both on to something, thanks. I am definitely open to going down the lumber route. my challenge is to figure out how to secure both ends of the divider (front and back) without impeding the entry points (via tailgate). I am sure I can secure the front (prob via an aftermarket front rail) but the tailgate entry is a challenge. I didn't think to use plywood underneath...

Yea cut a piece of ply to the size of the bed floor and screw a 2x8 or however tall of a divider you want through the ply into the 2x. You could also get this sprayed with Bedliner material (linex, rhino liner, ect) to make it more durable and to match a little better.

Out of curiosity, what do you need it for?

Yes, I think your suggestion makes most sense. I want a north/south division so that I can easily slide boxes in/out on one side, and haul my dogs on the other side. Easy entry/exit (no obstacles) of gear and dogs is important. I also off road, so I don't want my boxes/gear to shift and potentially fall on dogs. I could strap things down, but I think have a "wall" is just easier. I should mention, I have a cap over the bed, so the only entry/exit is via back (no side access).

Yes, if your ok with a kinda half divider or whatever the 2x should be fine. If you want something taller you can build a "full divider to the top of the cap using the base ply and some other ply

I'm a little confused on how you would affix this channel to the A) the cap and B) the bed. Please elaborate, thanks in advance.

What you could do is make a unistrut u shape down the bed wall across the floor to the other bed wall. Do this front and back and bolt to the bed side rails. Put in the front bed rail or use the 2 holes in the front bed rail and mount a piece of unistrut and run it down the front bed wall in the front then down the bed and bolt it on top of the unistrut cross pieces running across the floor. Mounting the u-shape of the strut up up You can slide in a piece of plywood and cap the end and top with more uni strut. This would give you a strong divider. no wood sitting in the bed so any water would run out and not soak into the wood. Unistrut is galvanized so no rust but you would still paint the cut ends. This wouldn't be cheap and might have to add some extra bracing at the tailgate end.
