    Greetings

I did search the threads but could not anything relevant to this problem.

I have a 2012 Access Cab with the stock radio -- Sirius, no Nav. Lately, while driving, the radio display goes black but the music keeps playing. None of the radio or steering wheel controls bring the display back -- it comes back on its own eventually. I have checked connections etc.

Anyone else have a similar issue? If so, thoughts on cause and possible fixes?

    Thanks in advance

Had the same issue. I found that pushing on the screen would bring the display back for a bit. My bluetooth stopped working too after a while... never found a fix for it and just gave up and ordered an aftermarket replacement.

Thanks for the response. What aftermarket radio did you end up installing?

Same here. I have a 2009 Access Cab I bought new. The original radio started acting like yours does when it was about a year old. It was replaced under warranty. About 2 years ago the replacement started doing the same thing. I installed an aftermarket radio. There are threads about this issue on the internet, I found them back when I had trouble the first time. This seems to be a pretty common issue with Tacoma radios.

Same issue with my 12, I would just punch the faceplate and it would work again. Ended up swapping in a 15 nav radio

OK, so here is my 2 cents. I too like the OP have the same truck/setup. I have had this truck for about 4 years now with no problems with the radio. In February 2016 I get my first smartphone. Yes, I was still rocking "Ye Olde Flip Phone". I decided to connect the new smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S5) to the radio via Bluetooth. No initial problems and it worked like a charm.

Fast forward 2-3 days later and the radio display blacks out almost daily. WTF??? I look here and see that this is an issue among the masses.

Moving along about a month later with the problem still happening, I disengaged the Bluetooth on the phone and delete the connection with the radio. So now if my phone rings it can't be tied in/piped thru the radio/truck.

Wham-O!! Problem solved at least for me. The radio display has stopped blacking out, not once since I disengaged the phone and that was 2.5 months ago. I've done nothing else to the truck to combat this problem.

Let it whirl kids - let me know how you make out.....Hopefully it works for you!

I hope this sparks up this thread. I recently bought a 2011 TRD Sport. I have a similar issue. The radio lights are blinking when the headlamp switch is turned off. The preset buttons lights and the screen light, the one that shows the radio station, are alternating on and off. When the dimmer is at its highest setting, the screen light remains on and the preset buttons are off. When the dimmer is at its lowest setting, all radio lights are off. Once I switch on the parking lights are headlamps, everything is working properly. Any ideas if this may be a related issue?

I disengaged the Bluetooth to my smartphone 1.5 years and it NEVER came back. Problem solved. As for your switch connection, I think it's either loose wiring connections or a bad ground. Check your wires - every inch and hopefully this will solve your problem.

So, being 2 years late to the party, I'm just wondering if anyone had any updates to the radio lights going off and on. I have a 2012, and it just started happening a week ago. This is the first place I looked to see if I was crazy or not. o_O
Is it 100% the bluetooth that is the culprit? I do have my iphone connected as of right now. I think I'll try disconnecting, and see if that helps like you guys have mentioned.
Just wondering if their is any other solution besides a new stereo.

Boulder Taco - disengage your phone/bluetooth connection. Delete it. You don't want the phone piped thru the radio ever!

See my posts above - it works. The stock radio is still kicking ass almost 4 years after my 1st post above. Hope this helps!
