I think a lot of people agree with you, at least as far as the moonroof. But I like them still, and hear KDSS is really nice on the road.

I just checked the toyota website, and tried to build a trail premium, it won't let me build one without KDSS. But their site changes on configurations every other day so who knows.

I just bought a white 2016 Trail Premium and it came with KDSS as a required option. After reading more about KDSS, it will make lifting my truck much harder. However, I bought this as a DD and camping rig rather than a wheeling rig.

Exactly the reason I'm looking at one. I would just like it maybe an inch or two higher so I could go up one size in tires and not have rubbing issues....

I swapped out the stock Dunlops for some BFG KO2s in the stock 265/70R17 and I don't rub at all from lock to lock. They are about 3/4" taller than the Dunlops in the same tire size.

I think the 4Runner is a much more smoother and pleasant ride if you're comparing it to a Tacoma. I frequently consider if I would rather have a 4Runner if I didn't use the bed of the the pickup that often. But damn there is something about a man and his pickup! I'm trying this year to get the woman to buy the 2016 4Runner TRD pro to get the best of both worlds. I'm waiting to see if there are gonna be any announcements about significant upgrades in 2017 to the 4Runners

I realize this isn't related to the OP's question but since there was some back and forth discussion about the cargo "bump", this is my solution to that. I also wanted a flat surface to sleep on, and my '14 TE doesn't have the sliding tray. I built a pallet, basically, that is 2.5" tall and perfectly cut to fit into the cargo area. When the second row seat backs are folded forward, the second row seat bottoms are unbolted and removed, and the front seats are slid forward and Rubbermaid Action Packer 1170 (8 gallon) totes are installed in the second row footwells - you have a perfectly flat, 7+ foot long sleeping area. The Rubbermaids are exactly as tall as the cargo area deck so they add a nice 12" or so to the available length.

This is the pallet. I remove it when not camping, but you could leave it in all the time, probably. It doesn't move around at all since it is a precise fit.

It takes 30 seconds to drop the pallet in place and it takes about 2 minutes to unbolt the seat bottoms using a 14mm socket.

I don't have any pictures of the whole thing with the seats laid flat, unfortunately.

    2.5" high, 43.5" wide, and 38.5" deep

This the only white one on big island? I know in Kona there's a black one and a few months back the Hilo dealership had one in desert dune color

KDSS shouldn't affect lift options. Any lift worth the $$ is fine with KDSS. This seems to be an internet propagated rumor. I've checked with a bunch of the top tier vendors in my research and no one has said that KDSS will pose a problem with their lift kits.

KDSS is really an unfair advantage, it's a fantastic, elegant engineering solution for those of us who do on and off-road duty with our trucks.

    Cheers, James

The trd tro and the trail both have a rear electric locker and crawl control on them as far as I know

Your right. I was able to lift my 4-Runner with KDSS with no issues.

The tan one is in Kona so is the inferno colored one also. The black one is owned by a popo that I seen running around in Kona as well. There's couple more white ones running around and I seen a Magnetic gray one out waikoloa and Kona side. My wife drives our lifted one daily. Probably the only lifted trdpro t4r here on the big island so far for now. 6e41a800b36998610078109d214bee17_45e1ce6484eda8557c230cb0db5bafa3000a2a11.jpg
