No 4x4 for I4 ?

Hello, I haven't owned a Toyota truck since the 80's (below, lol) and am looking for a replacement for my venerable, but discontinued, Honda Element (there's really nothing like it, other than perhaps a Tacoma with a topper ).

I really just want a 5-speed, I4... but when I'm 'building' a truck at Toyota's website, it would appear that there's no 4x4 option any longer available with the I4.

Is this correct? or am I missing something here?

Just realized, I can't select from a 5-speed either? are these just limitations with their online 'Build' web app?

 

If I were you I'd build a time machine instead and go get that old Toyota pickup you had and keep it forever lol.

To answer your question, yes you can get a 2016 4x4 4cyl Tacoma with the 5 speed manual, I had one priced out myself a few months back. There are several guys on this site that have base model 2016s with 4x4 and a manual transmission. Pay a visit to your Toyota dealer and they'll work it out with you.

 

Toyota removed the manual transmission on the 4 bangers on the new 16s
They only come in auto 6 speed

V6 comes in both manual and auto 6 speed

 

Actually, I found the 'View Trims' link from the http://www.toyota.com/tacoma/#!/models page... it seems to suggest that the 5-speed is only available on the SR model access cabs, which is exactly what I want.

 

The 'build site' just shows models that are available at the time in your general area (when you plug-in your zip code), not all models and options that are available from the factory. I assume that is because Toyota want you to buy one from dealer stock and not custom order one. Poor judgement from Toyota corporate in my opinion.

Try other zip codes from other areas of the country. I am pretty sure you can get just what you want...

 

You might be able to use cars.com. You can set it to all miles from your zip code and filter it down by cab size, engine, transmission and drivetrain. Even color of you want. Happy hunting

 

With the base SR package you can get an I4 4x4 5 speed, I know because I was this close to ordering one

 

Yup. SR 4x4 2TRFE MT is available. Cars.com is your friend. Set filters for lowest price, 4 cylinder, manual trans.

 

The "build" site is really just an inventory site for what's in your area. Toyota doesn't really offer to build a truck like Chevrolet or Ford does. Don't know why.... it's just their business model. Cars.com as mentioned will help. You can also stick in zip codes in other places. Keep in mind Gulf States Toyota and Southeast Toyota have big areas so if you are in Mississippi and want to try the zip code trick, try a Michigan Zip.

 

I had to order mine, a white access cab SR 4x4 4cyl manual trans..... Took 10 weeks to get it but was well worth the wait & $$$
