I don't like the duratracs either lol. The sipes arent very deep at all which means they're great for the first few months till you get down to where the sipes end. Then you have limited traction on ice.

I haven't had any luck with Toyo A/T's on gravel. Thats my experience.

I just mounted some Toyo AT2 P rated on my first gen Pre Runner. I think the P rated look pretty good. I am running stock suspension, no lift, and went with 265/75-16 in place of the oem 70 aspect ratio. Fits great, no rubbing at all...

Are "P" rated tires the same as "B" rated? I'm looking at purchasing some Toyo Open Country AT2's, but I don't want to run "E" rated tires.

Not sure what "B" rated is. But they do make these in "C" (Load Range C). Much lighter than the "E".

According to that link and the tire description, Load Range B = P rated.

There are no more 4, 6 and 10 ply tires. The rating is the equivalent of the old bias ply terminology when they had that many layers. The more layers the higher the rating. The rating now is purely a sidewall strength rating.

    Thanks Sig. If I don't go off-roading, would a 4-ply tire suffice?

YW - Yes the P rated would be just fine. Many on here do just fine with P rated.

I just ordered the p285/70/17 for my new Tacoma. Can't wait to have them mounted. After taxes I paid $288. Also got a 10% discount for the labor to have them mounted etc. So we'll see how much that comes out too. I've heard good things about them.

i have noticed a small decline in power, going from the p-rated cooper at3's to the 6 ply toyo's,, i think the toyo's are 8 lbs' heavier..

What are your opinions on snow performance for these tires? Just picked up a set for myself

I've had 2 sets of Toyos and they are awesome in the snow on our trucks I think. I always see how far I can go when it snows before putting it in 4x4 and it always amazes me!! Very pleased with these tires

Hey, I'm not a tacoma owner, I own a nissan titan. I stumbled onto this thread looking for answers about the extreme amount of chipping on my Toyo A/T II Extremes load range E. I have had them for 24k miles now, I was running them at 60psi for 10k miles until I called toyo and asked them what the proper psi for my weight was, they said 40 and I have run that since. I drive 60% pavement 30% gravel road and 10% dirt trail, and I have experienced significant chipping on all 4 tires. They seemed to chip worse in the front but after a trip to the sawtooth NRA I noticed significant chipping in the rear. Is any amount of chipping considered normal? And at what point should I consider these tires dead? On each tire there is at least one major chip and 4 - 5 small chips, the major chip would be the size of about 1/6th of an outer lug. I'll post some pictures later today.

There are worse chips and I can get more pictures if there is any interest, this is just to validate some of the claims I read earlier in the thread, these tires do not hold up offroad (maybe in sand) but they are fantastic on road and very quiet.

    1469634156267440351971.jpg

I'll admit, I do drive like a maniac on some open roads in moab, but isn't that what these type of tires are for? Overall I am very disappointed and have seen other trucks running goodyears getting much better life out of them under the same use conditions.

That doesn't seem that bad to be honest.. between that mileage, the fact you're actually using them offroad, and for a long time they were ran at 60 PSI. Mine have chunks like that, even out of the sidewall. but.. that's because I was using them. They wear evenly, are quiet like you mentioned, and have still lasted longer than previous tires I've ran. (BFG and Nitto)
