2008 Tacoma Post 100k Maintenance - Keep vs Trade

Just looking for a little advice....

I have a 2008 Tacoma TRD Off Road with 100,000 miles on it. I changed the oil every 5,000 miles. I've replaced the air filter and cabin air filter 3 times. I've replaced spark plugs, breaks, and tires once. Had to replace 1 rear axle seal at $400. Up until recently everything else was great.

About 6 months ago, the axle seal started leaking again and I neglected it until the differentials started making a grinding noise and it cost me $3400 to fix. When I went to pick it up, I told the salesman that I may be interested in trading in mine for a new one if he gave me $11,950 for mine and the one I wanted for $34,000. He said that he could do 11,500 for the trade and give me the price I ask for on the truck.

I know that people say that Tacoma's go 200k or more miles if well maintained, but I've lost some faith in mine, even though the huge expense was my fault for not getting it fixed right away. I honestly can't decide if I want to keep it and get a full tune-up and fluid check and hope that I get another 100,000 semi-problem-free miles out of it, or if I should just trade it in for a 2016 and probably have at least 100,000 problem free miles. I'm worried about things like transmission, drive shaft, cv joints, ball joints, tie rods, etc going now, because I never did any real maintenanc on the truck. Or are the things that I've done above enough for a Tacome. I've always drove Chevy's and Fords and things like ball joints, tie rods, idler arms , starters, alternators ,etc always seemed to go between 60,000 and 100,000 miles. I love my 2008, and I don't want to spend 22,500 on a new truck, but I also do not want car problems.

Any thoughs or past experience with post 100,000 mile repairs would be appreciated. Just kinda curious what I should expect if I keep it.

$3400 is less than a year of payments.

Do what your heart and wallet desire, 100k miles is nothing.

If you can't stomach the idea of a truck with 100k and are so paranoid of it falling apart one day maybe you need a different type of vehicle altogether.

 

First off, welcome to TW.
I also have an 08 and just recently put 4600.00 into it for various issues, all wear and tear for a truck with 225,000 miles. Trading it in for new was not even a thought. This was (by far) the most expensive maintenance I've had.
I am extremely satisfied with the Tacoma.

 

I have an 08 that has 103k miles right now on it. I've replaced the plugs, replaced filter once in the cab and intake, replaced both front wheel bearings and that's it (Besides grease and oil changes). Not a problem yet, knock on wood. Hopefully it'll go like my first gen for well over 200k miles.
