I'm trying to be a little proactive in getting ready for 33" tires. I have not been able to find any other threads on alternative mud flap mounts for fitting bigger tires.

I know a lot of folks just take them off but for me they are essential because if I remove them then my welded sliders get sandblasted by debris and the paint comes off immediately and the oxidation process begins.

I'm currently running 265/70r17 on fj cruiser steel rims with icon co and total chaos UCA. The adjusted rings are currently seized on my icons but I have ordered some fox COs and will be raising the front by about 1" when they come. I'm looking to fit 155/80r17 cooper at maxx tires or potentially 285/70r17 open country r/t (please reply with your opinions on the two). I don't know if I can fit the width increase with 285's but I would prefer the more hybrid Reed tread of the r/t.

So I wanted to mount the flaps essentially flush with the cab mount chop but not add any thickness on top of it. So I decided to use some L channel strapping from ace hardware (for hanging garage openers) to attach beneath the cab mount. I ended up oickinrbg up the two existing drain holes but then I added an extra drain hole since I filled the OEM one with a bolt.

Went together pretty quick all in all took about 4 hours for measuring, trimming, painting and Install. I also trimmed the flare where it extended past the cab mount chop plate so as to keep the plate as the closest point of contact.

As far as mud flap I used the following from Amazon, but I think I will be lookin for a wider flap in the future because it doesn't fully cover the 265/70/17's. http://www.amazon.com/Black-Road-Scene-Easy-Guard/dp/B0002NIJS0

I have those flaps and am very happy with them. they're perfect for my 255/85/16 tires. I haven't cut anything.

Are you running st maxx's? I figured the flaps will be perfect for 255/80/17 but I'm worried the maxx is too much mud terrain, I need on road snow traction for trips to ze mountains all winter.

Also, God bless Montana. I'm currently a part of the heathen left (Washington) but fantasize about moving to MT.

I'm on Toyo M55 tires. They have a fairly narrow tread, which decreases rubbing, but they're amazing in the winter and really didn't impact my mpgs. They air down for great deep snow performance. I keep looking at the ST Maxx - such a great looking tire.

Are the drain holes where you mounted the L-track to threaded or did you have to finick nuts into the cab mount?

I was able to fit nuts in there without too much trouble.
