I just bought the wire harness and dash kit. Antenna will fit fine. You can buy steering wheel controls but I didn't.

I installed a Pioneer 7100 HU. For CarPlay to function you must run a cable from the back of the HU to your iPhone. Is there a way to route this cable to one of the blank spaces next to the oem USB port so you can just plug your phone into this new USB port? It would be a nice clean way to enjoy CarPlay on your head unit.

Yeah - I just used a Dremel to rout out the front of the blank. The female end of the Pioneer cable actually fits in pretty perfectly to the blank if you do this (and tighten it up with a bit of silicone in the back).

Thanks "firestorm" but I was hoping there might actually be a more "sano" solution, maybe an actual USB port that I can plug into the Pioneer HU.

I found this item on eBay that gives me exactly what I was looking for. You could still get this to provide a cleaner look to your dash.

Fair enough - I think you'd be surprised at how good a carefully Dremel-ed blank looks in comparison. I'll try to remember to post some photos tonight.

I installed a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX about 2 weeks ago and absolutely love the thing. Touch screen works flawlessly, colors are bright and the sound is much improved over my 2012 AVH-P4400BH that I previously had.

Used a Maestro SW for the steering wheel controls and since I have a JBL truck I had to use a converter for that. I just bought a OEM USB port on eBay and a harness for that to keep everything clean. I'm happy

Hi there! I just bought the app radio myself - can you shoot me a link to the harnesses that you bought for it? Thanks!

When you get the units with Navigation in them do you constantly have to pay to upgrade the maps?

Some of these units are like over $600 with Nav it looks like. I better never have to pay for maps with that price O_O.

    Good luck with that.

NAV units used to be $2,000+++ and yes, you have to pay to upgrade maps every few years. Do you work for free?

I just think it's too expensive. I don't pay for updated maps on my current GPS. I just wanted to know if it came with regular upgrades. I don't pay for upgrades maps. Waste of money.

Yup, i agree that is sucks. My garmin does come with free map updates - i actually bought it because the price was the same as paying for new maps for my old unit.

There are ways to upgrade the pioneer maps for much less cost, especially on the older units.

Last year I purchased the Pioneer AVIC 7100 and I live in a rural part of the world and roads almost never change. About the only time they change would be in a new subdivision which for most people would be a non issue for navigation. Last month I drove from Ontario down to New York city and had no problems. For my touring motorcycle I have a Garmin Nuvi which came with lifetime map updates. That's a great feature but I found out the hard way that if you don't update the unit then it starts shutting down all by itself. Maybe that's it's way of reminding you to update the maps.

Why in 2016 would anybody pay for map upgrades when they have a CarPlay equipped HU that can access the free and better maps available on both Google Maps and Apple Maps?
