    Active Single Cab 2.4 D-4D 6MT £19,177 = $27,823 USD.

    Invincible X Double Cab 2.4 D-4D 6AT £29,435 = $42,707 USD.

There's no conspiracy theory. I want a diesel Hilux as much as the next guy, but nobody in North America would pay those prices for a small truck.

Pretty sure those prices reflect the insane tax structure on cars over in the Euro zone. It's absolutely ridiculous over there. Equivalent US MSRP would be something like $19,500 to $30,000

I had a friend in college who was from Italy. We went to an auto show once- he looked at the various MSRP stickers and his jaw dropped, he was amazed at how unbelievably "cheap" even the Mercedes-Benz cars were! Europeans pay a metric shitload of taxes on new cars.

I don't disagree with you that Euro taxes are higher, but here in the US $19 to $30K is the price range for a decent USED gas-engine Tacoma, not a NEW diesel Hilux.

The price thing reminds me of an episode of top gear where they went to Canada and bought trucks. They said everyone drives trucks in NA because they are cheap. I was thinking, huh? He went on to say that a reasonably equipped half ton in the US is about the same price as a compact in the UK. Europe is not so automobile owner friendly.

    ?? Is this sarcasm?
Plenty of people paid over $40k on this site alone for a non-diesel less-capable truck. Those prices are right in line with the US trims +- a few thousands.

The Hilux! I've blown up quite a few of these. The Hilux tagline should be "Coming soon to a terrorist garage near you!" I once saw one take a direct hit with a 500lb laser guided bomb and you could clearly still see the whole frame and bits were all still attached as it veered off the road. Of course the unlucky saps driving it were roasted pork, but the truck was probably resold a week later on terrorist Craig's list as "Salvage Title: interior needs work but runs great". Those things are indestructible!

Maybe I'm strange but the Hilux's reputation for being the "jihadi special" doesn't really make me not want one.

In fact if I could get my hands on a surplus DShK heavy machine gun I'd be all over that shit.:D

IMG_7215.jpg My wife is from Thailand and her sister has a Hilux, drove it many times, I really liked it. All the Hilux models in Thailand are diesel and are built there, build quality is great and like the Tacoma, retains its resale value. I've seen the Ford Ranger there and the Chevy equivalent, both are really nice in my opinion and are imported from Australia. They are both much more expensive and don't last as long, or so it seems, with the hard driving they do there, owning a Ranger or Canyon is a status symbol.

Terrorist use was a major factor in me wanting a Tacoma. I know they are different trucks, but similar, 2.7 is offered in both at least. I figure if these guys can run them in desert combat with a relatively bad supply chain, me running a Tacoma on pavement in America with any part I could ever need would be a breeze.

The irony is it takes a million dollar bomb delivered by a multi million dollar fighter to kill a couple of terrorists. Expensive war! We will win the war and be broke doing it.

Turn the place to glass and call it good.

Haha exactly. The limited spec is right around $40k+ and plenty of guys on here grabbed a $36-38k trd with tech package.

If you sold a d4d TRD off road for +$2500 more than the V6 people would be all over that. You could probably sell it for $4k more and still get takers.

In some parts of the country, I don't doubt that at all. Where I live, new crew cab F-150's with the 3.5L ecoboost are $40K and 2.7L ecoboost or 5.0L V8 F-150's are even less. I'm sure a few people in North America would pay a premium for a small diesel pickup. But my point I didn't make very well the first time, is Toyota won't sell a small truck here that costs even more than a Tacoma because most truck buyers on this continent want full size trucks anyway. Last year there were about 358,000 mid size trucks sold in the US, which sounds like a lot. But for every mid size truck sold, there were 6 full size trucks sold. There's no way Toyota is going to take a gamble on a mid-size diesel with numbers like that.
