Can you use a 3rz from a 4Runner in a Tacoma?

Long story short I burnt an exhaust valve on my 96 Tacoma (3rz). The entire setup has 220k+ on it, so I found it more feasible to replace the entire engine. My transmission makes rattling sounds in every gear as well, so I want to replace that while I'm at it.

    Anyways:

I found a complete 3rz with all wiring and such for $1500 obo (guy said it was rebuilt by Toyota-getting more info later)

I also found a rebuilt 5-speed transmission and transfer case (same guy) for $800 obo

I was thinking of throwing out a fairly low offer to him, but I wanted to make sure that I could actually use these parts. They're off a 1997 4Runner.

Any idea guys? Also what's a reasonable price for them?

I think it will work. The common issue burning an exhaust valve on these trucks is a crack in the exhaust manifold. Do yourself a favor and get a header

I bought the steel 4runner header for my truck like 4 years ago :D

I burnt an exhaust valve because the truck has 220k+ on it and I've never had the valves adjusted and I'm assuming the previous owner, my friend, never had it done either considering when I bought the truck (170k miles) it was low on oil, low on coolant, and had several other issues.

Anyone else sure on this? I'm pretty sure that he'll take $1800 for the engine, transmission, transfer case, etc. I'd hate to drop the money and have it not work.

As long as you have all the wiring and such i dont see why it wouldnt work?? But im no gooru on the subject either. I do know you cant.use a motor that used to run on an auto tranny ecu then make it run on a manual ecu and vice versa. But again no expert here, thats just info I've picked up here on the forums. So i wouldnt take my word as law, haha. Sorry im not more help bud!

all that "rebuilt" talk would have me running the other way.
the price seems super high too for not having an enforceable warranty
Once an "expert" starts rebuilding stuff it is never stable again.
I would look for one out of a crash that is virgin from the factory and never got opened up and touched by an "expert"

I held off on calling him, but his ad says that Toyota rebuilt it. I'd like to replace my engine and transmission, but can't find either within 3 hours of Sacramento, CA. I've been on the lookout for almost a year. Wrecking yards have them, but want even more money than this guy.
