Has anyone attempted the grey wire mod on the 3rd gen? I assume it will all work the same as the second gens. Didn't find anything using the search. I miss the locker engaging in 2nd on my previous prerunner. If it hasn't been attempted I may take a whack at it soon and let you guys know if goes alright.

X2 been wondering about this myself.
Also wondering if there is a way (other than pulling the abs fuse) to completely disable the traction control. Press and hold on switch only turns it off up to 30mph.

Just curious, why does one need their diff locked above the max 4-lo speed which I think is about 35mph?

Don't have the same kind of red clay in Arizona we do in Texas do you?
Red clay or "red dirt" roads as we call them are slick as greased owl sh#t after a good rain. You need all the traction you can muster and 25-30 miles in 4 low brings the suck when you need wheel speed to clean out the tires. Locked rear and 4 high are the ticket 90% of the time.

I'd imagine looking at schematics (if you're familiar with reading them) someone would be able to figure it out, unless the third gens are a lot more complex. I did the mod on my '98 4Runner a few years ago, very simple. Anyone have access to schematics to both a third gen and a older truck? Not sure if the first gens and second gens were similar or not.

All I need is the schematics haven't had time or opportunity to get them yet. It is proberably as simple as completing the circuit on the 4low indicator switch but you may need to prevent back feed to the ECM/TCM. Adding a diode will solve the back feed but with out the schematic I can't tell you for sure.

Feel free to wade through these.

[edit] - the zip file of all the wiring diagrams) was too large and didn't make it into the post. I'll try breaking things up into multiple posts. A pity the forum software doesn't warn you if it's too large.

Probably easier to send it to him as an email if he's interested.

@tcBob can answer the file size limit.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I'd bet with all the new "crawl control" and such it's a lot more complicated in the 3rd gen than even the 2nd gen. If you compare the 1st and 2nd complexity there's a HUGE difference.

    Good luck on trying though.

It was 19MB. I just split it into 3 zips. Each is less than 10MB now. Will this fit?

Yeah 10MB is the hard limit. So that'll work

OK, here are three zips. Copy them down and unzip all of them into a single folder and you will have all the wiring diagrams. I just noticed that there is a message on the upload pop-up that says a max of 10MB. When I press "Post Reply" momentarily I'll find out if that is a file limit or a limit to all the files in a single post.
