Managed about 8000 miles so far on my '16 4x4 Off Road. Overall happy with it, but I have two gripes. One is a common one - not in love with the transmission as it often feels under-powered, or shifts needlessly on slight highway inclines. I can live with that. My biggest gripe is that I find the seats to be inexcusably uncomfortable. Anyone replaced their stock seats? With what?

I'd visit an automotive upholstery shop as opposed to replacing the seat. Would be cheaper, and would be totally customized to your body and your aesthetic wants.

Good thought. I'm not unusually proportioned-- about 6'2'' and 210ish. Mid 40s -- I can take an uncomfortable seat, but this one just really seems to wear me down over longer trips. Lower back not happy.

I'm hoping the 2017 TRD Pro seats are better.

@DCSBFTMFW Is that definitive? not convinced
Side bolstering may be improved in the 17 PRO. so I'm hoping! that's what sucks about these seats. my '04 civic has better side support that these seats. how are we suppose to go off road or sport ride in these seats that feel like bench seats? i know, hang on to the wheel with all you got, right?!

    Not at all.

But what special Tacoma trim packages have had all new seats as opposed to custom upholstery?

    I'd be interested to see.

You have links? Maybe we can look at a 2016 TRD seat and compare.

We are all built so differently and seats either fit us or they dont. My work trucks are F150s and 2500 dodges. I can barely walk after driving them due to lower back problems. However I was worried about the 2016 Tacoma as the seats are not super soft. However I am happy to say that my lower back feels great after long drives and I do not even use the lunar. Go figure. I hope you get yours sorted out OP.

I had the same problem, I liked the 2nd gen seats better for long trips. I think Toyota USA went cheap and just used foam with no springs on 3rd gen seats, 2nd gen had some springs I guess. Got no photos to compare under seats of both.

I'm with you, on both issues. Maybe apples to oranges but my 2001, worn down, Tundra buckets were more comfortable then my '16 seats even after a few thousand miles of ass break in time. Anyway ... I am thinking about a set of Wet Okles, that will add a little extra padding as would any other high quality cover.

Well I got some cushions for long trips and they make the seats higher too! I will find out if they're good and comfy when we travel to GA on memorial weekend. So far they make the seats much better!image.jpg

My ass tends to go numb on these seats. I work out 5 days a week and am not overweight so not sure what it is about the seats.

The seats are my biggest gripe about the truck. I find the seats to be a bit too narrow. They are not painful for me just feel smaller than they could be. A Titan or Tundra or Ram have much more comfortable seats. I had a Nissan Frontier and didn't care for its seats either. None of the midsize trucks have great seats in my opinion. On my Nissan I had an upholstery guy add padding to the back of the seat and the seat bottom. All that did was make the seat feel odd. I'm not going to have the Tacoma seat modified until I also find a stock seat at a junkyard so I can go back if needed.

The extra padding in Wet Okole seat covers did wonders for my 2nd gen seats. I was ok with them before, but the additional padding helped a lot.

I have a Wet Okole seat back from another vehicle on my 2016 Tacomas seat back. The extra padding does help. Next group buy I may buy a front set for a Tacoma.
