So I've ordered factory TRD Off Road fender flares for my SR-5. After much research, verifying part numbers etc they're telling me it can't be done. After I told him he was full of crap, he said well I guess it can be done. This is even after I provided my vin per their request which showed fitment ok. I can't imagine these parts couldn't easily be put on. Anyone out there install these after the fact ? Should've just bought the F'n TRD in the first place.

nah, trd advantages are brakes, suspension, MTS and locker. If your gonna change out suspension and add a locker, your good to go. MTS/Crawl, it's good don't get me wrong, however given a little time and experience off road and you wont use either.

Were you trying to order the Toyota factory trd off road fender flairs? If so, it can be done, but it's probably not what you want if you have the base SR-5 (without the appearance package, I think the appearance package had painted flairs). The Toyota flares mount to the fender with screws and clips so you'll have to do some drilling and/or cutting.

Yes I wanted the TRD Off Road because they're black. I know there is no difference between them and the paintable version which comes with TRD sport, limited, and Sr5 appearance package. You mentioned cutting ? Your thoughts on that.

I've seen pictures on the forum where people removed them from their TRD and the holes are square I believe and there are clips that go in the holes. So if you can't just drill round holes and use screws you may have to cut the squares for the clips to fit in. I don't know for sure though. It might be simpler to look into aftermarket flairs. I'm pretty sure I read that they attach with screws under the fender well and then use an adhesive to stick to the side of the fenders.

I couldn't find a picture of the 2016 but here's a pic of an older tacoma showing the clips, I'm pretty sure the 2016 is the same

Yeah, the factory one has some slots in the body and clips on the flares that go into them. Ask me how I know, haha.

I was thinking of doing the same thing, but I sure don't want to drill holes. I have the TSS SR5.

It's all good. It happened in February when a girl decided to attempt to cross 6 lanes of traffic on one of the busiest streets in town. Didn't work, haha. She made it across two lanes and I hit her rear quarter panel right behind the wheel and took her whole bumper off. Insurance got me taken care of but it still sucks to have 7K worth of damage on a truck that had less than 7,000 miles on it at the time. Amazingly she got to the other side of the street without getting hit on the other side which almost happened too.

I've seen some nice aftermarket options on the 2nd gens, hopefully some are out there for ours too. Some kind of street style or OEM type would probably look similar to the stock ones. Best of luck on the search!

It not like you have to use plastic clips, use some good quality 3M double side tape on the edge and screws on the inner wheel well. Stock fender flairs also have some double side tape on them so maybe new ones already come with them pre-installed
