I am suspecting a bad ECU on my truck and i can't find one with matching numbers. So my question is do the numbers have to match up? And whats the worst that could happen if they don't and i try it anyway? any help is appreciated.

Well either the plugs will not fit at all.

If they do fit some wires will need to be moved .

In any case you would need the Pin outs from Both ECM`s to make things work

That is without thinking about the whole Transmission issue or 4x4 compared to 2wd

some numbers don't have to match. just need to get the toyota part number to match. why are you suspecting a bad ECU?

I have a throttle petal problem. My throttle body only engages when the pedal is depressed about half way down. when I pulled the trouble codes awhile back, it had to do with the throttle body motor. I replaced the throttle body and the problem still persist. I even jump 12v to the throttle body motor and I can hear the motor moving. But what caused it all was putting the battery on reverse polarity. So I think it fried the computer or something. Not sure but I'm lost and that's all I can of

When did they go to throttle by wire ??

was that as early as 2003??

The reason I ask is my throttle cable bracket on the firewall broke caused problems just like that.

yea it started in the 2003 model. I think its called ETSC-I or something like that. Its a pricey and confusing problem to solve. Did you fix yours?
