I have a 2001 Tacoma prerunner. A couple of days ago I changed the starter. The next day when I went to drive it, the engine was shaking and acted like it wants to die. Not sure this is relatedto the starter or not. It shakes in hear and in park. Almost fill like it's gonna die if I don't give it gas, but keeps running. Any ideas? I changed the plugs and wires, fuel filter today and she still not running right.

Check engine light? Are you positive you put the wires in the correct spots?

No check engine light. I changed the plugs and wires after it started running wierd think that was the problem, to no avail.

So the problem happened immediately after you changed the starter? As in the first crank after you changed it

The only possible thing I can think of is this, and it's a long shot......

Your alternator has been bad for some time, slowly letting the battery drain by powering the engine where the alternator couldn't. now that the battery is nearly drained and alternator is barely keeping up with powering the engine.

i say that is a long shot cause there is no co-relation to anything else on the truck except for the alternator the ECU and maybe some wiring.

Man that sucks. When I replaced the starter out of my 03 4cyl It was a pain to have to squeeze/maneuver it out through wheel well. Maybe you knocked a hose/vacuum line off? Or maybe the wires to the starter, ground wire? Good luck.

That's what I'm thinking. Vacuum line or something.

So I found the problem. The pcv hose was cracked on the backside facing the firewall making it hard to see. Replaced the hose and she's running great. Thanks for the help and suggestions guys.
