It looks like they scuffed it and satin cleared it. Nice touch but it probably won't flip flop in the light anymore.

No comes the fun part of figuring out everything I want to do. I am completely new to the truck world for the most part. I have seen a lot of great ideas on here!

I'm glad we're all allowed to express ourselves in individual ways, and it's okay if we don't agree on what looks good and what doesn't.

To me, personally I think that those wheels are heinous. They're not going to stuff at full compression, and the thin sidewall will be shit for airing down on rocks and sand. Effectively they've taken an "off-road" model and turned it into an "on-road" model. It looks big and mean, but has no purpose but impressing high-school girls ... but hey, again, we all buy our trucks for our own reasons. Some of us like going off-road, and others just like looking fresh in their ride :) There isn't a right or wrong way to do it as long as the owner is happy with it.

Maybe I'm just getting grumpy in my old age. I hope you agree it's okay we all have our own opinions :)

FYI it's okay to just drive it and enjoy it while you watch other people swap parts on and do the beta testing for you :) Then you can know which parts to avoid. These are very capable trucks regardless of the trim selected, even an SR/5 can go lots of places with the right rubber on it. Just be smart about picking your line, use a spotter in unfamiliar terrain, and take some recovery tools: shovel, snatch strap, board for your jack, air pump to fill up after airing down on trail, first aid kit, etc. With that you can get out of essentially anything with a bit of work.

It looks like you might be somewhere in the Sierra Nevada area (just guessing by the truck photo ...), but wherever you are, you may be real surprised with the performance the stock suspension can offer with a decent set of tires (Cooper AT3, Falken AT3W, BFG KO2's, etc.). You may want to switch the sport struts/shocks out for TRD off-road Bilsteins (can find used take-off pretty frequently in the for-sale section of TW) or Bilstein 5100's (jet.com cheapest price with coupon, about $260 for full set). Most people agree the Bilsteins give better ride quality (little firmer/solid and not as squishy/boaty). The 5100's will also let you level the front if you want, so that would give a bit more approach angle.

Otherwise, seriously, don't rush into mods you may regret later ... smart to plan it out, and it's good to take it out mostly stock and see what it has problems with for your exact needs. Then you can focus first mods on certain mods that well help your truck meet your needs better. Maybe the suspension and tires work great for you as is, and you just want to make it more capable for camping. Then perhaps spending $ on a RTT setup and outfitting other overland equipment might be your first focus. Perhaps you just want to hit some gnarly trails, and you find you want more approach angle and some protection from rocks. Then get some OME springs and skids+sliders. You just have to find out what you're wanting to do, do some of it, see what your truck needs help with for your driving style, and then you can focus your mods with a good upgrade plan.

Maybe you're some ballin ass officer or something, and you can just go ahead and get all the things ;) .. oh ya, and o7 <---lame ass internet salute...

Although, since you are a Marine, you may just want to go ahead and draw a penis on it ... I know you like drawing penises, don't you ;) jk jk .. I was in Ramadi (East side of the city, 1/506 held down in 05-06), and whenever we went to TQ (Al-Taqaddum, Marine air base little to the South) for supplies the crappers always had dicks drawn inside of them. Every. Single. One. lol, so I just always figured Marines must really love drawing dicks. But hey, not judging, I know we were all men, helping each other through hard times, and you have to stay warm somehow on those long cold winter nights in the desert. Much love, Semper Gumbi ;)

But seriously, enjoy the truck, and welcome to the Inferno family

Those rims look good on the 4Runner, but they honestly always looked a little small to me. I also felt they set a little too far inwards on the 4Runner and aren't wide enough. It's because the 4R kind of has big boxy minivan proportions to it, so because of those proportions I feel like it really needs bigger tires than the pro wheels will fit (285/70r17), and wheels that sit a little further out. It also helps to lift those things a few inches ... and then, THEN, the 4Runner finally stops looking like a minivan lol. I always liked the style of the wheel though, just didn't feel like the offset and width worked the best with the 4Runner body.

However, with the leaner profile of the 3rd gen Tacoma, these TRD 4R-Pro wheels have finally found their home. Coz they look damn near perfect on this truck! Plus, the Tacoma size works really well with 265/70r17 or 275/70r17, and these wheels are perfect for that size. If you want taller then the 34x10.5 size also fits these wheels, and that size also looks great on a Tacoma with ~3" of lift. Yup, the 4R-Pro wheel is just a really great choice for this truck :)

While I've seen them on many many trucks on this forum, I still haven't seen any in real life with them, and that's really my only complaint about them: very popular on this forum. Then again, if something looks good, of course people will go with it! Not to mention they aren't expensive, and you get OEM quality/fit with them. Again, great choice :)

Also it can cost as much as a paint job. I've seen some wrap jobs that were over $5000 ... hell, some goober on TW had a TRD Pro wrapped entirely in clear, I think he paid like $6700 or something ... The main benefit is it's not permanent, and it will protect the factory paint job which can be a bonus for an expensive exotic or other speciality car that you want to preserve. I think in most cases if you aren't able to get a hookup on the labor, or know how to do it yourself, it probably isn't worth it unless you're trying to preserve something special that might actually be worth some $ to a collector some day. The guy who wrapped his TRD Pro tried to justify it because he saw the truck as a potential collector item, but of course the majority of Tacoma owners were like, "brah, why buy an off road truck if you are afraid of scratching it, :der::der: " to each their own though :)

Justpicked mine up today! The more time I spend with it the more I love it. Had a split second where I questioned the colour I chose but have had many compliments on it. The moe I look at it the more I like it.

You chose wisely. I would have chosen the same color had it been available (short of the TRD Pro )when I bought mine . I love Inferno. This color will resale well.
