Expected MPG loss for a 3 inch lift and 285's

Expected MPG loss for a 3 inch lift and 285's? Considering a lift and wondering if it's worth it...

 

I have the 3" lift BUT 265-70-17.

MPG was not really affected. It's negligible.
But I am not aggressive on throttle though.

My MPG is around: 19

 

I'm running 3" with 285/70R17 MT tires. I'm getting around 17.3 according to the computer. That should be over 18mpg when corrected for tire height.

 

You know there's a change tires option and the nav settings right? Will adjust for 285's by comparing the gps and odo

 

I'm a 2nd gen and I went 3" 2" lift & level from stock TRD Sport 17" wheels & 265/65/17 to 16" wheels with 265/75/16 and lost 20-25% mph city & highway combined. Highway only is more like 15-20% as long as I keep my psi at 42. My combined ranged dropped from 420 miles max to 315. All highway miles, I can muster 370-380 miles to a tank, that's obeying the speed limit.

I just drove from Reno back to the bay area lastnight. 177 miles. I have a 3" lift and 285's. I got 19mpg average. Not bad considering about 60% of the drive consisted of uphill terrain.

 

If you're considering if it's worth it and are concerned about mpg then it's not worth it.

 

20-25% depending on load range of tires and driving style/driving area, generally speaking.

True. Doing the lift and the wheels and tires, you almost have to prepare for the mpg loss... to me, its not as bad as my 14mpg i was getting on my jeep with 37's. Like the old saying goes, "you gotta pay to play"... with me, it was a good compromise.

Yeah but for every uphill there is also a downhill as you drove to Sea Level in the Bay Area

 

Exactly. Going up to the mountains I'd get horrible mileage in my Subaru, and on the wy back I'd get amazing mpg doing down the passes. All averages out.

 

Yes I've done this but I dont believe it affects your Speedometer or Odometer. Only your Nav unit. The reason I say this is because my daily commute to work was 18.3 miles before the tire change. Now it says 17.8 everyday. And the local PD's "Your Speed" indicators aalso show that my Speedo is still off.

 

Mileage should drop off a bit, what you drop too depends on: what you get now, your driving habits, and any other mods. Bigger tire=more rotating mass/ground clearance (less aerodynamics), and less efficiency. I have 265/70/17's, but have not noticed a drop. Haven't noticed because I switched tires at the 13 mile mark.

 

Yea. I thought about that as well. But i feel the amount of throttle used to push uphill then cruising down still out weighs cruising on a flat road with steady throttle especially on cruise control. Idk. maybe thats just how I see it.

 

Then again maybe I just did something wrong? I would love it if it actually worked.

 

I have a 3" lift with 285/75/16 and drive flat ground and only get 17mpg driving conservatively. I will try the Navigation calibration and see how much it changes.

 

Well I got a 4 inch lift and 305 60 R18's.. You only live once, fuck it!
