    Hello Gents,

New owner here w/ an easy question. Doing a front brake replacement on my '04 Prerunner. Autozone guy asks me if my taco has traction control or not- as the brake pads are different depending on the answer.
So, which is it? My searches of this forum and google show mixed results.
    Thanks.

Thanks guys. It looks like edmunds.com got it wrong (on a rare occasion)...

    http://www.edmunds.com/toyota/tacoma/2004/review.html

    "What's New for 2004
All 2004 Toyota Tacoma models get standard Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and V6 models can now be equipped with Vehicle Stability Control. Four-wheel-drive V6 models come with Active TRAC, a traction control system intended for off-road use, while 4x2 PreRunner models have traction control, plus a limited-slip rear differential"

A follow-up to this thread in case anyone needs the same info in the future. I actually ended up going back to Autozone because the non-traction control brakes did not match what was currently on the truck. I asked to take a look at the traction control brakes and they matched perfectly. Go figure.

    Sorry ... Incorrect ...

In 2004 Toyota offered VSC/TRAC as an option. This is the only pre-2005 model year Tacoma that ever had traction control, and 2004's with this option were the first Tacomas to have any kind of traction control system.

Some of the traction control features were available as options starting with the current generation's introduction in 2005.

Does my vehicle have the VSC and/or Trac option?

I recently purchased a used 2004 Tacoma DC 4WD TRD OR. It did not come with an Owner's Manual. i purchased a full Toyota 2004 Tacoma Owner's Manual Set off of Ebay and was reading through it this past week.

As I read this OM, I kept seeing reference to Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control, but when I turn the ignition on, I do not see the squiggly slipper vehicle light come on and then go off. The only lights I see are the ABS self-test light on the far left (at the bottom), and possibly a brief test of the 4WD light at the botton right. I see no VSC or VSC Trac or Trac warning indicators come on and then go off either.

The OM did not mention any VSC or Trac buttons anywhere either, nor do I have any such buttons. The only button I have is the RR Diff Lock button to the left of the steering column.

Based on my reading this thread, I conclude that my vehicle did not come with (the) VSC / Traction control (option). I found it curious that the OM does not say it was an option. It read as if ALL 2004 Tacomas had both VSC and TC.

All I know is I am having a very hard time finding the right size rotors for my 04 Tacoma with 3RZ the ones that should fit are to small so if I have vsc maybe that will work and the rims that came on it where 16” so maybe that’s why I need bigger rotors?

What do the calipers look like? There is a big brake swap that is somewhat popular

It’s not the tundra brake swap the rotors that are on my Tacoma Measure 12.50” OD and the thickness is .75” and the ones on tundras are 13xOD and the thickness is 1-3/16” and I don’t have a dust cover
