Going through one of the washes. A decent amount of the roads hadnt been driven in a while. It stormed all around us every day and we only ran into muddy problems for the first portion of Dinosaur NM. But no recoveries needed, just a lot of slip and slide.

I wasn't steering as passenger as instructed which is why he looks like hes doing the "YMCA" haha

I'm getting annoyed with the rain, since we continued to chase it and my truck REALLY needs a wash. But again... waiting on the thunderstorms for today, I am guessing they will evaporate leaving me with no option to spend a ton of time at the carwash getting it clean(er).

All vehicles survived without incident. At some point (guessing on one of the washes) my passenger rear corner of the bumper got dented (again) and pushed up into the tail light making it pop out. And during the mud fest, some mud caught a little metal tab on the side of the gas tank and pulled it into the driveshaft boot. Thankfully it was only hitting on the metal clamp and didnt slice open the boot.

Haha... and I tested my shower. It worked well and it was nice to get the caked up dust out of my hair. It need some refinement but it beats not having one!

And I forgot the only recovery needed... first day of the trip.

There was water on the right side of the trail to the left of the picture that looked innocent enough. But he got a bit too far into it and it was sloppy goop which sucked him into the puddle, and continued to suck him in as he tried to continue out of it.

The goop seemed to be a high percentage of cow feces.

Ok.. one more, not taken by me.

I'm sure you're already there but no there were plenty of open spots along Cedar and also at the bottom of Metberry!

I just got back from Slaughterhouse Gulch! I did in fact go even though it was a BIG NO-NO to go with only one vehicle... but my big blue buddy handled the harder lines with ease! Still... I would not condone going without at least 2 vehicles, as there were certainly some muddy spots that could have been doom if I had gotten stuck. Trail is in great condition!

Checked out the Sand Dunes National Park on Wednesday. Medano Pass not open due to trees down and snow. Beautiful scenery though, will definitely be going back.

By not open, do you mean that it is completely impassible from the start? Or do you just mean that the pass does not allow for through traffic to the national park? Because I was going to head down there in about 2 weeks to try and camp along Medano pass and I would love to know if I took off that time for nothing...

According to the park page, from the park side the road it open through the fourth crossing and half of the campsites are available. There rest are past the closure. They don't say anything about coming in from the other side and how far you can get.

Hey guys! Glad I happened to see it there was a page like this. My wife and I are leaving for CO on June 14th from North Carolina. We were planning on doing a lot of mountain biking but due to the amount of snow in some of the places I had picked out it looks like that's not going to happen lol. I was wondering if anyone had ever been on the forst service road 12 going out of crested butte towards lake Irwin campground. I was wondering what this road was like. Is it do able in a non lifted Tacoma? Also there is another forst service road 317 that goes to Emerald lake id like to do as well. Any information would be appreciated!!!! We are planning on camping for most of the 2 weeks we are out there. After we leave crested butte we are heading to Telluride for a couple nights and then heading to Durango. Anything we should check out or ride? Also how hard is it to find camp sites. I have a CVT so I don't mind to just pull over and set up somewhere but I don't want to risk a ticket or anything like that. not sure how strict they are on things like that out there! Thanks again guys for any advice! Looking forward to checking out everything out there!!!!

@worm09 Both roads are graded and access to both lakes should be easy. If you go any further up either pass you could run into problems with drifts. I highly recommend riding up over Schofield Pass (317) into Crystal. It's a pretty scary pass on the back side as its just wide enough for a jeep with a 40ft drop off to the creek. It will be an easy ride there from as far as you can go up 317, but the return will be a workout. There are some good camp sites in the area, one being a hidden gem that I send about 2 months a year at. I'll PM you the name of it as I don't wan to throw it on the interwebs. Enjoy! CB is my second favorite place in this sate next to Silverton.
