i replaced bearing and seal in my front diff and then tried to top off the diff. I squeezed oil in to the fill port until it ran back ou of then plugged it up.

I noticed now I have oil seeping past the seal and onto the body of the diff so the whole body of the diff has a sheen to it. Not much dripping though. Did I install my seal crappily or did I overfill my diff and oil is being forced out?

I have to decide if I have to pull her all back apart and replace the seal or what?

Truck specs would be very helpful here.

All I really know is for 1st gens and if thats what you have it sounds like u filled it correctly and may have messed up on the seals. Im no expert tho so hopefully someone more experienced will chime in

1st gen, 2nd gen? If you replaced the shit needle bearing and seal, wait a few days to see if it is still leaking. I did mine and it look like it was leaking a little for a few days, but was just the residual gear oil on the diff housing. After a couple days I parked on top of cardboard, and got 0 drops in the morning, as well as checking the diff fluid several times, and being full every time.

So I pulled the skid and wheel off to replace and then I noticed there actually is not a single drop of oil inside the skid plate but there is a sheen of oil on the outside of the diff. So I'm struggling if I should pull the seal. How can I check fluid level dip a rag or something?

If it should be filled to the hole and the hole is big enough you can just dip your little finger in to check- thats how I check mine. also a papertowel or q-tip oughta work

So I'm thinking the leaking may have been from the fill plug? I removed the fill plug and a good bit of oil came out. There is no oring or anything so it wouldnt surprise that oil could leak even with the plug torqued up. I let all the oil drain out and replaced the plug. I'm thinking the seal is holding so I didn't replace it.

    Too few to list.
Usually when I do my diffs and t-case, I use foaming degreaser afterwards to clean everything up. Easier to tell if there's a leak afterward.

There should be a crush ring gasket on the fill plug. If you don't have that then that would explain the leak...

You may be on to something here... That hex key is getting abused on mine anyway I'll order a new one with a crush washer.
