Road noise in 2016 Tacoma Access cab

Well, just to follow up on my last post. Yesterday I did glue all the door gaskets in place. The bottom rear corners were especially sloppy. It did help some, but I feel more noise that should be. My last vehicle was a Nissan Xterra, noticeably quieter. Previous vehicles were Gen2 Taco (reg cab), Dodge Dakota, also quieter. If you look at the rear edges of the back doors where they meet the bed on the access cab, you see rather large openings.
I am just going to accept that this is how my Tacoma is. A tad disappointing, but does not outweigh all the good features.

OP, can you let us know which noise level app you are using on your iphone? I've got a work iphone and at least on mine there is no stock noise level app.

I have a personal android phone with an app called Smart Tools on it. It has a noise level function and I found it to be very accurate when compared to a $4000 portable noise level meter I had access to.

Maybe to squelch the naysayers on this thread, could you post a screenshot of your phone when it's measuring the high noise levels. There is obviously serious issues with your truck.

 

Same here. My old Xterra noise levels on the highway were a big improvement over my 2nd Gen. This is even with the extra sound proofing I completed on my 2nd Gen.

 

You need a tuned box. Lol

 

For what it's worth, the sales manager talked to me about the road noise and looked at the seals with me. He drives a '16 Tacoma and said that Toyota has acknowledged the problem and there were new seals coming out for the doors. He then looked at my door seals and immediately recognized them as different than his and supposed that I got the upgraded seals. You can see small holes in the rubber door seals which he said were new. I don't have any problems at all with road noise and find the cab volume perfectly normal. For reference, I'm coming from an 05 Silverado 1500 Z-71. Anecdotally, I'd say thy'ere about the same.

 

We'll that's good to know. I find myself from time to time checking to see if my back windows are open. Sadly, my Tacoma is nowhere near as insulated from road noise like my 2014 GMC Sierra SLE. The Tacoma just feels hollow inside when you compare the two. Hell, I believe my 2000 Tundra was more serene...that makes me sad because I'm "stuck like chuck" with this truck!

 

I have no complaints from road noise in my February built 2016 Access cab assembled in the Texas plant. It's so quiet that I find driving the streets with the window down is annoying. And I like driving the streets with the window down instead of running the air conditioner.

Well I measured my cabin dB this morning using my Android app, not the most accurate, at 70-75 mph. The dB a low of 63, to a high of 70. The high reading of course was at 75 mph. I held it near my head and near the doors.

If I think of it I'll try it again with my handy Radio Shack sound meter.
