What kind of air bags are in the Tacoma's? Does anyone know? I was just watching news and they said Toyota is still using the takata air bags that are under massive recall. They 'Toyota 'never said what model it is still used on. I don't get why any car company would use a defective auto part from the start...

Google Takata air bag recall it will then take you to a NHTA link that requires you to enter your vin # . If your vehicle is one of them you will receive info on what to do

Thanks for info. I just kind of think its criminal to put a known defective part in your car...<sigh> btw my build date was 5-26-16 waiting impatiently for it. Was wondering if I get a new car that will have a recall.

They didn't know or acknowledge that the inflators were defective. If you follow the recall you'll see that the first thought the inflators that were defective were only in certain climates exposed to certain elements. However there were a few accidents outside the "zone" they thought these should occur. Prompting a more thorough investigation and much larger recall. The recall is expanding more and more for a few reasons. Takata is one of only a few airbag manufactures in the world. They produced about 20% of all vehicle airbags worldwide I believe. Which turns out to be a lot of vehicles. I doubt they have made many significant changes to the inflator design or components as this costs much more money and makes them less universal and more vehicle specific, which would raise the costs of the products.
