Has anyone ever tried to have a key lock installed on your passenger door. Both passenger door lock actuators have gone out on my 2010 DCSB and I thought this might be a cheaper and more permanent fix. Thanks.

I'd love to know why Toyota did not include this on the gen 2 trucks. I had a 2000 Tacoma that had a key lock passenger door (in addition to power locks), locking glove compartment, and locking gas fill door. None of that stuff is on my 2010 truck. I am somewhat mystified by the decision to do away with these things.

I don't understand it either. I never thought about it until both actuators went out. I feel like a jerk when my wife stands at the door while I get in and reach over to unlock hers.

Why do you feel like a jerk?
Is she that mean to you?

It would be cheaper to replace the actuators than it would be to do the body work to install a key cylinder.

Its very simple, its called Kaizen, they tell the outside world that its constant or continuous improvement. But on the inside the constant improvement consists of reducing content and or reducing the cycle time. I too would like to have back a lock on the passenger door handle, glovebox, and fuel door.

My wife is not mean I just don't like having to leave her standing by the passenger door (especially in the rain) while I get in to open her door. $600 per door is pretty expensive so I thought that might be an easier fix. I have seen other similar tacomas with the passenger side key.

I've never had a vehicle have one go out much less two and a third is on the way out. WTF?!?

Well if you do the work yourself and source the parts yourself I am pretty sure you could do it for less than $600 per side? There is a thread on working with the door mechanisms that is quite good with pics.

    This is the answer.

Or you could buy your wife an umbrella. :)
