looking at a set of component 6x9 speakers for the front of my '15. Factory head unit with an Alpine power pack amp. Will the 6x9 have a noticeable difference over a 6.5 set?

Especially in a vehicle without a sub I'd go with the 6x9 - all other things held equal. You get more cone area with the 6x9, so it moves more air. I'd expect better low end extension with the 6x9. And IIRC the 6.5 will require an adapter (more money & complexity). The big reason most go with 6.5 is a much greater variety. Your options are pretty limited with 6x9. There is a school of thought that sound quality suffers with an oblong cone, but I don't buy it. That said, I hear lots of good things about the Image Dynamics CTX 69. Morel and HAT make good ones, but they're a bit more money. Dunno about Memphis.

+1 on the Image Dynamics CTX65cs'. I have them and they bump (if you want them to) even with the sub turned off. Great price too.

There is a definite difference in running a 6X9 over a 6.5" speaker.

I have a Pioneer MVH-X560BT Head Unit running through a Memphis 16 EQG7 to a Memphis SA450 200 Watt Class D Mini Amp powering Memphis Power Reference PRX693 3-way 6X9 Coaxial Speakers in the front doors. The other two Channels of the Mini Amp are running a JL Audio 10TW3D4 Subwoofer in a Mr Marv enclosure behind the rear passenger seat. I installed Memphis Power Reference PRX32 2-way3.5" mid in the door tweeter position and I have Memphis Power Reference PRX6C 2-way 6.75" in the rear doors all powered by the Head Unit.

Eventually I want to run the 6.75s through the Mini Amp along with the fronts and add a Memphis Amp for the Sub. Either the SA1.300 Mini Amp or a Power Reference PRX 300.1 Amp

I had Memphis 6x9 in my 08 and then put them in my 10. They sounded awesome. I have a friend that owns a audio shop and does all the installs. He stopped carrying Memphis because of the quality went down. Just some input.

I saw the Memphis set on the crutchfield site. First time I saw a 6x9 set for my truck at a reasonable price. I can't spend $400-500 for a set of front speakers.

I don't know if this is still active or not for the OP....

I have the Memphis component set with 6x9's, tweets, and crossovers in my 2014. Bought that, the 6x9 adapter plugs, other hardware, and speaker rings from Crutchfield for under $200.
It isn't as "loud", which is variable to the individual's ear, as the factory speakers were but ARE 100% more clear and sound better. Bought the truck in late June this year, had new speakers by the end of July.

Are you running off the stock radio? Running an amp?

Stock radio. An amp, and maybe a sub, is in the future. Tough to find a decent sub box setup that won't take away from space in the back.
I hate to lose the factory radio and it's perks, aftermarket ones rarely fit/look as good imo.

Ideally, I would like a 500 watt, 5-channel amp. Run 50 watts to all 4 speakers and the rest to the sub. But again, I don't want to lose a ton of space with a massive box. I bought the truck for the interior space it did offer, hate to take away from it, couldn't/can't afford a 4-door taco lol.

This is what I have: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_95315PR69C/Memphis-Audio-15-PRX69C.html?tp=106

I haven't pulled the trigger yet on the front speakers, but I think when I do I'll try the Memphis. The Alpine power pack should wake them up.

the Memphis 6x9 set is affordable and so much better than the stock drivers. i am still running on deck power [have amp to install, am lazy] and it's quite good.

i did augment the set with a Dayton RS75 mid in the stock upper location. tweets in sails.

Whats the sensitivity on the Memphis? If you are not upgrading the wiring and adding an amp, I'd look for some good, efficient 6x9s

My first hand experience, as said ^^^ above, is that the Memphis aren't as sensitive as factory. My ear doesn't hear the music as "loud" at max volume as it was with factory, but my ears feel 100% better at loud volume with the Memphis speakers in and music just sounds more betterer.
They aren't as efficient a driver, but absolutely more clear than factory. The tweeters are slightly harsh, but we have stock 3-way HU's in our trucks and you can adjust treble. Never met a stereo that didn't need tuned...

Memphis quality went to hell a couple years ago. They used to be upper mid now near bottom.

I agree, had them in my 2010 when they were good. My local audio place do not carry them anymore because of the quality went down hill.

This is my understanding as well. Like so many other audio companies, they sold out to one of the conglomerates & quality took a dump (ex Soundstream, Precision Power, MB Quart, etc). Not sure if they're an Epsilon brand or not as that wiki page seems to have disappeared.
