    Hello,

My 1998 Toyota Tacoma 3.4l 4x4 manual transmission will not start. Lights turn on and starter will not crank at all. Either with the clutch depressed or with clutch start cancel switch.

    Things I have done,

    1. Checked battery - Perfect
    2. Checked Starter Relay - Good
    3. Pulled starter and had it tested. All good.
    4. pulled starter relay again - jumpered pole 3 to 5. Starter cranked.
    5. Put new starter relay in - No change.
    6. Checked for amperage at Poles 1 and 2 on starter relay while trying to start car. No amps.
    7. Checked STA fuse in cabin fuse box. - Good - Probably should have checked earlier

Okay, so if this is happening and either with clutch depressed or with clutch start cancel switch depressed, is this my ignition switch? If so, how can i test.

Would like any and all feedback

    Thanks
    Nick

Are you getting any fuel ?
-Check to see if your getting any exhaust out of your tail pipe
-or you can do a spill test on your fuel lines

i can push start car no problem. The starter will not crank. It doesn't appear the starter relay is getting triggered. But this occurs both with clutch depressed or clutch cancel switch. Doubt both switches failed at same time. So trying to move up the chain which leads me to the ignition switch. Just wondering if there is something else i'm missing

How does your power wire from your battery to starter look does it have continuity.

When I pulled the starter, checked the voltage at the starter and it was above 12v. basically battery voltage. Like I said, i can get the starter to crank if I jumper poles 3 and 5 at the starter relay. So it is not the starter. Some how the Starter Relay is not getting triggered, but i have replaced it. It also looks like pole 1 and 2 have no amps when trying to start. So there is something upstream preventing amps getting to starter relay to trigger it

I would check the switches next then. The starting circuit should be pretty straight forward.

Found the issue. I recently bought the truck and previous owner had a Locktronics device on it. I had no idea what it was. But I guess it is a security device attached to the ignition switch. removed it and connected the wires back to factory configuration and it starts like a charm.
