I have used the wonderful search tool and have not found anything directly answering my question (at least that I can comprehend), so I'm hoping y'all can bare with another newbie question.
After reading endlessly and trying to learn all that is (lifting) Tacoma, I am actually more confused and scared than I was before reading :frusty: . My fears are based around "RUBBING". I want to lift my little truck and want to do it right, either Icon stage 1 or OME/ 885 up front and currently have Dakars coming (may be too high?). So my fear is the backspacing of my wheel, I have the TRD Pro (4 runner) wheels and I have read the backspacing is not optimal due to close proximity to suspension such as UCA, Coil overs, et., etc.

    upload_2016-6-3_16-35-40.jpg

The second part of my question, if I was to ask for the "ideal" backspacing considering a 2 1/2 " to 3" lift with 265 70 17 Hancook AT's. Do I want the wheel further away from the wheel well because then I may rub on the fender right? I understand the General concept but how y'all figure out the ideal backspacing for any given situation is way beyond me. So what is the best case scenario as far as backspacing numbers on a wheel.

Thanks in advance, please go easy on me, I am mechanically challenged. :crapstorm:All kidding aside I appreciate this site and all the members, thanks!

Are you currently rubbing anywhere with the wheel at full lock (both directions, moving forward or in reverse)?

Currently stock suspension and only a slight rub when reversing down driveway with wheel turned and I believe it to be on the mudflap.
    Nothing in any other situation.

I'd imagine you'd be rubbing the same spot with the lift then. If you want to keep your mudflaps, you could get a set of wheel spacers (Spidertrax 1.25") and it will probably space them out enough to stop it. Some people knock (wheel) spacers, but most are people who have never had them. I've had mine for a year with no issues.

I rubbed slightly on my front flaps when I moved up to a 265/75/16 so I just took them off. You could also trim some of the excessive length off the flap.

Im trying to avoid spacers if possible but youre right, I have no experience good or bad with them. It just seems like another potential point of failure.

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestion, I have to be open to all remedies.

I have the 16" TRD 'Beadlocks' and I had the rings and bolts powdered coated black. I just ordered the 5100's and the Icon 1.5 progressive AAL. I was going to put 265/75/16 KO2s on these but I really wanted to go with the 17" TRD wheels...so I ordered those last night. Now I cant figure out if I can run 275/70/17 KO2s without wheel spacers, without rubbing and without cutting. Reading through the forums, there are experts who contradict each other back and forth so I am still not clear!

    Before powder coat.

    I have 17 x 9 wheels and 275/70/17 K02's
I have a 3 inch spacer lift on the front, and mine fit perfect
I just had to remove the mud flaps because they would rub a little on really sharp turns.

I believe the TRD wheels are 17X7 with 4mm offset will that cause issues with the UCA?

Without lifting the truck at all you might rub a little or you might not. I think if you go with the 275/70/17 you should be ok
My offset is -12mm, so my tires stick out a little
Try calling discount tire company and tell them the size wheels you want to get and they can tell you pretty accurately whether they will fit or not
