That looks really good. How is that wired? Do they all get wired into the control box? Was it hard to do because I have to put the winch in and then the bumper on the truck. Winch cant come out once it is on the truck and it was a pain to do lol

yeah you wire it into the control box....its easy, if i can do it anyone can  you will only have to take the control box off and remove the back panel and splice into 3 or 4 wires, power, ground, line in, line out which you can find diagrams for what color wire is what in your winch.....IIRC he even includes a great diagram with his kit

Yeah as long as I can get the Friday off from work I'll be there. Drive up Thursday morning after I get off and leave Sunday mid day. Probably trailer the truck since it's pretty far. My dad wants to ride along and one of his buddies with a SAS 4runner is going. Should be fun.

    Wheelers Pass-SAS Shake Down Run
    June 4, 2016
    Cold Creek-Pahrump

After 3 long months, my dad and I had finally finished doing the solid axle swap. He had gone out of town for a few weeks so I finished up the last few small things to get it driving and it was finally ready for its first run. I text my buddy who had the gold xj to see if he wanted to go since we had both talked about doing Wheelers Pass for a while. We decided to go on Saturday since we where both off and it was supposed to be 108 or so in town. We met around 11:30 and where on the way to the trail head around 11:45. We got to the trail head and aired down real quick and got going since the parking area was pretty busy. To our surprise, it was already pretty nice out and we had a small breeze.

It had been years since I've done this trail so had saved some directions on where to go for this trail. Everyone always says this is a stock friendly trail and that a 2wd truck could do it. Well I would have been skeptical taking my truck up this when it was 2wd. It was pretty rocky and slow going crawling higher and higher up the pass. After stopping a few times to talk and take a few pictures. We finally reached the top of the pass and where greeted with nice cool weather. We stopped seeing people about halfway up and had the trail all to ourselves. Was a perfect day.

We took the usual group picture with the sign at the top and I flexed out the truck as much as I could on one of the near by boulders. My buddy took the lead on the way down as we squeezed through some tight spots and tried to take the harder of the lines. We reached the last wash and passed a few people at the base of the climb on the backside. From there we made our way down the dusty dirt road to Pahrump where we met a camper completely engulfed in flames. After checking both rigs and realizing we both forgot fire extinguishers, we headed in to town to see fire trucks pulling up already. From there, we grabbed some lunch and aired back up. We where already missing the cool weather that was on the trail as it was extremely hot messing around on the pavement.

And finally, we made the quick haul back to town.

Overall, it was a great trip. Truck performed great and besides the front tires rubbing the fenders, had no other problems. Will wash it and get a hand on all the bolts and check all the welds but didnt hear or see anything unusual. I am extremely happy with how it went and cant wait to try some harder trails and push the trucks and my limits.

    And now some pictures:
Obligatory flex shot (Rear still had another inch or so)

Looking to get a synthetic winch line. Any recommendations? Not trying to break the bank and will probably go pick one up from 4 wheel parts but wanted to see what others thought.

Looks like a cool trail. Will definitely have to check it out!

As for a winch, it might actually be cheaper to buy a new winch that comes with synthetic line. Then you could either sell your old winch, or use the synthetic line from the new winch and sell the new winch.

Synthetic line by itself is ridiculously expensive it seems.

Master Pull Synthetic Winch Cables. You get what you pay for, but they're stupid strong. They like 3/4x stronger then standard winch lines.

That may be a possibility since I stole the spare winch my dad had laying around. And since the line is stupid expensive....

Holy sheet... yeah no thanks. That cost more than the winch I have. Winch is a just in case and haven't needed it yet. And I carry a spare strap just in case.

I'll look into viking and I agree. Just seeing if someone knew any good deals going on.

I have had mine for 6yrs now and use the hell out of it and no problems. You get used to pulling cable when you are open in the front on 33's and evreyone you wheel with has 37s+ with solid axles lol.
